I love looking at old photos of the campus and comparing how it was to now...even the vast upgrades from the last google earth pass.
I found this while reading some info on Hamlin Hall, which I had never heard of...didn't know Shuttle had a twin.

Anyways, it shows Old Main in 1953 and you can see the newest expansion of DWS on the west side.
It's on Page 14-15 of the Pdf which is the Alumnus magazine from the summer of 2005.

I like the Bulldog as a breed. They're cool dogs, and everybody who has ever had one raves about them. Having said that, that bulldog looks like a *!$!+%* gremlin.

There was a "track" around it, that is why our stands are so far from the field.
Our stands today were built on that basis. Most modern fields are much closer.
There was a still atrackthere when I was in school.

of the alumni magazine. Some interesting items, like the fact that the baseball team was the first intercollegiate sport at MSU. I guess that's why we are known as a "baseball school".

Thinking of the Scott Field of old, I can remember my 93 yr old grandfather telling me when he was in school at MSU (i'm not going to do the math of when) all the fans would just hang out on the sidelines with the team. This could be before the first stands were even built, I just thought that was an interesting fact. <div>
</div><div>Also, he said there were only 23 females in school at the time, so the W is where all the guys found dates.</div>

Old Main would have been a site to see in person.<div>
</div><div>Contrary to what the orientation leaders tell incoming freshmens, the Chapel of Memories wasn't really made from the bricks of Old Main. Just a good story.

It is really kind of cool to hear him tell about that night.

He has some crazy stories about the pranks & jokes that got pulled while he was living there too. I can't remember them right now though, so I guess that previous sentence was useless....

I've heard some of the stories from my family and it is an absolute freakin miracle that place didn't burn down much much sooner than it did. They use to set trash cans on fire in the halls on a consistent basis.

either last Fall or a year before. They had a bunch of the older guys that lived in Old Main before the burn and guys that lived there when it burned and they recapped several stories of pranks and things they did inside of Old Main. It is crazy how things have changed so dramatically since then. They were mentioning have motorized bikes running down the halls and like someone posted above setting fires off in there regularly. And that was minor to most of the stories they excluded

The Dad of a friend of mine lived in Old Main in the late 50s. He said that a large portion of it was condemned and they would ride motorcycles through that section. It sounded like it needed to be burned down anyway.
