Because I don't know if you've read my genius recruiting star rankings theory, here it is.
Other than the consensus top 150 prospects, it's up to the coaching staffs to find and evaluate talent. Guys at recruiting sites aren't trained like coaches to evaluate and project prospects like a good coaching staff is. Nick Saban doesn't offer a player until he's seen every play of his HS career. I bet our staff is very similar. Now, there is an exception to a very small group of top talent out of that 150. Chris Jones is an example. So, if you can nab 3 to 5 of these guys, you're class rank will be really good, as it should, because these guys are truly game changers. Classes 1 thru about 6 or 7 are truly elite with 8 or 9 thru 30 not that big of a difference either except one or two higher rated players. The rest (95%) of it comes down to coaches finding guys and developing them. Dan said he's going to be in every HS in MS and recruit relentlessly in a 5hr radius of Starkville and that's proven true with the signings of players such as McKinney(2star), Calhoun (2star), Dak (3star), J.Rob (3star), Jamerson Love (2 star)....you get the point. I think we're doing more branching out with our recent success. Next year is going to be a huge year for us. We got momentum right now, a great class for 2015 so far, and a favorable schedule for 2014 season. I think we got a decent chance at a top 10 class.
Having said all that, according to my theory, we're somewhere around the 17th most talented team in the country. The rankings say we're 25.8 going back 5 yrs.
