Talented but questionable (either grades, injury, intelligence, etc) recruit wants to commit early. We have our eye on several others at the same position, but because we don't have a 'good read' on those other guys, we accept the early commit. Other guys situations change (maybe their first school pulls their offer and we're the 2nd choice) and they want to commit closer to Feb.

Are we supposed to tell the first kid to wait until our better options make up their minds? Hope that the 1st kid still wants to play here after the others find better homes? Cut the first kid loose on NSD because the can't miss guy picks us?

Honestly, how would it be possible to handle this type of recruiting situation that would not be considered, ******?

I mean, Dan Mullen is the devil if he pushes for a commitment and asks a recruit to shut it down, right? Is it possible he liked OM but Freeze told him he needed to get on board in the immediate future or else they would move on? Let me answer that, yes, it's absolutely possible that Freeze told him that.

He’s starting from scratch. After committing to Ole Miss, he cut off contact with the other schools

Freeze learned to recruit from Orgeron, so he doesn't give a 17 about any of the recruits. And he shouldn't, CFB is a full time job. It's just amusing because he spouts off about religion on the reg, and yall suckle his balls as he does so.

if Mullen did the same thing - I would say it's part of recruiting but since it's Freeze - I shall call him out. Add to it that Freeze is a self proclaimed born-aGAIN SEC Coach - it's funny to call him out on it.

I am definitely hypocritical on this.

It's very bad business to accept commitments from kids(particularly from OOS) without doing ALL your homework on them first. State gets transcripts from EVERY kid that there is serious mutual interest with, generally before offering, but ALWAYS before accepting commitments.

You bring kids 6+ hours from their house to your campus to work out @ the place they feel is their future school, and pull the rug out from under them while there? Freeze handled this badly. It happens in recruiting, no doubt... but there is no justification for how it went down here, IMO

There's no good way to handle this one. The coaches were really high on him. The Rivals guys were really high on him as well. I hope his knee continues to get better and we end up with him in February. It sucks for the kid though, because he clearly wants to be here. Bright side for us is that we are obviously in on some better and less risky LBs.<div>
</div><div>Also, not all of us like the preachy ****. I saw him on CFB Live earlier tonight and I said to my wife, "please don't let him mention the 17ing wilderness." I think it gets old, but all coaches do it. I seem to remember a video of Dan Mullen talking about practicing what you preach that got spliced in with some unpleasant locker room shenanigans. I think all of the coaches are all genuine in their intentions, but it's hard to live a perfect life being an SEC coach.</div>

he never has to my knowledge preached about not having rap music or dancing in the locker room.

I might be wrong about that- but I don't remember seeing it.

And honestly, I don't think it's that bad of a thing at all.

The main thing Dan preaches is working hard- and I think he definitely practices what he preaches on that.

free-jus has carpet bombed the nation with recruiting letters. some kids haven't made up the time (at the time they got the letter)... don't have the maturity to understand a form letter when they see it. he thinks "oh... awesome... ole miss wants me".... he doesn't have that built-in dislike for ole miss, so he knows no better. no one else is a calling... let's go see what there is...

oh... party on the grove all the time? awesome... bimbos at your beck and call? awesome.... SEC school?

sign me the eff-up.

how someone else might handle it is this, "son, you tore your ACL and played through it senior year... let our staff look at you, or refer you to a proper doctor so we can help you evaluate just where that knee is".

i think some things are coming too fast for free-jus and he blindly said something to a 17 year old who took it as genuine interest.

I'd rather this happen than some kid get the 'Paul Crawford' treatment or 'processed' by Saban or Miles. The fact is it's a cut throat business and these kids have to realize that too.

1) Mullen was making fun of your coach, and doing it quite well; and 2) "unpleasant locker room shenanigans" uhhh....huh? Our team was listening to rap music and getting hyped up. I don't recall a single State fan being upset about that. Only you idiots with your "we are so pure and holy" **** got all offended. My entire time in college there was 2LiveCrew blasting in bars and dorm rooms, these kids today ain't got nothing on us for inappropriate music!

Your and idiot. Seriously. You look like a fool.

but I hope we don't ever go to these levels to sign people if any of this is true. I know we pay people but this Oregeron/Freezus approach is<span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space:pre"> </span><div>nauseating.</div><div>

The ole miss fans are feelin it, due to recruiting, and we see some new ones over here every day. Good recruiting and a new coach have y'all hopeful again. I hope freeze is the coach y'all think he is. I hope he builds the program the way you want. I hope y'all become relevant for the first time since integration. BUT-I hope Mullen stays a step ahead. I hope we continue building the way he's going. I hope the egg bowl becomes meaningful on a national level. But more than anything, I want us both to be 11-0 going into that game one year so that when Dan wins his 7th in a row against you, it truly crushes your soul! I want him to bring you the greatest sports related disappointment you've ever known. I hope this non-rivalry really heats up in the coming years. The last 11 years have been boring.

only the spliced up one that got you guys so pissed. In that one he talks about running a Christ centered program, walking the walk all week, and practicing what you preach. Juxtapose that with the hype video of guys dancing and yelling along with "back up b**** get the 17 out my way, get the 17 out the club if you scared to throw it up, y'all hoes over there y'all hoes ain't s***" and it looks hypocritical. That's really all I was saying is that all of these coaches have the best intentions, but they can't be perfect and sometimes they are made to look like hypocrites.

I said I'm not a big fan of the preachy bs, but all coaches do it. Sometimes they are made to look like hypocrites because of it. Do you disagree?

If he comes back healthy this year someone other than the Bears will sign him. Odds are heavily in his favor that his coach at the new place won't be a girl's basketball coach.

I said immediately before that I'm not a fan of the preachy bs, but all coaches do it. You missed the gist of my post. Not sure why that makes me look like a fool.

I post a fair amount and NAFOOM, and the two used to be really funny message boards. I'm just posting here because I'm off work for a couple of days, NAFOOM's slow, and I don't really have anything better to do. The weather is crappy here today.<div>
</div><div>I felt like we were relevant in short bursts over the last 10 years. Eli brought us some relevance and so did Nutt's first 2 years. I agree with you about both of our schools being good. It would be nice if we could both be good at the same time, but I don't think that's ever happened. Usually if one is decent, the other is in the gutter. I don't think you'll ever see either team win 7 straight against the other. Also, there's not really any bigger soul crusher than losing to JSU in the first game of the year following a Cotton Bowl win.</div>

These guys have that character and that’s something they embraced, that
they wanted. A lot of people are going to get up and preach about what
their program is and when they get there the guys all of the sudden
realize it is something very different. A lot of people view themselves
that way. They get up and preach but yet they don’t live it. These
young men had the opportunity to not just hear us preach about our
program but see that we actually live it. A lot of people go to church
on Sundays and tell you one thing but walk out the door and live their
life very differently. We don’t do that here as Mississippi State. We
live our lives the way we preach within our program. The values that we
have and these young guys got to see that, every aspect of it. You’re
very excited obviously when guys look and you talk about being the best
you can be, wanting to work hard and make commitments and sacrifice.

printed posts from Miss State message board and showed them to recruits. I think our coaches should have a copy of this where ever they go as pay back.
