I saw where AJ McCarron is finally getting some consideration.

question is: If his numbers play out like they are now, Klein loses (he will), and Bama manages to win the whole thing....

Could he win it? Should he win it?

you're right, I may have had their schedule confused with another team... If they get by TTech, they should run the table (only OK ST & Texas left & @TCU) and Klein will probably win the H'man.

K-State will slip up against one of those teams

Texas Tech is more than capable of beating them, but the game is in Manhattan.
Oklahoma State has been disappointing, but they have the talent.
at TCU is my pick of an upset. TCU's defense is still really good.
at Baylor is another one - Baylor can get into a shootout with them in Waco.
and Texas sucks - might be the least likely to upset of the five, but is somehow in the Top 25. Gag me.

He shouldn't because he simply isn't a good enough player. AJ is a good QB thats level of play is completely raised by the talent around him. He isn't asked to do near the things that Klein, Russell, Manziel, etc.....

Should he win it: No unless his play alone lifts them through a few tough games. Bama wins b/c nobody can score on them and they can run the ball at will on most everyone. Admittedly I haven't watch a ton of their games. But I haven't seen him drill a ball between two defenders for a big play consistently or make a ton of what I consider throws of high difficulty. I'm not saying he's not good and even that he can't make those throw. He just doesn't have too - half the TD's i've seen on highlights, there isn't a defender within 5 yards of the receivers. So while it's not his fault, he gets in the discussion b/c of the team he's on and he also gets penalized for the team he's on.

But what is K-State without Klein?

Or ask yourself this - you're starting a team from scratch and you have to take a QB first (thus OL and WR/RB are uknown) - where does AJ rank on your list?

oh, I don't think he's even the best player on Bama's team... and he certainly doesn't have to do (with less) what the others you mentioned do.

But should he be penalized because he has great talent around him?

The Heisman is a joke anyway, IMO... it seems to go to the perceived best player on the best team these days... He certainly qualifies in that regard.

I've not seen him listed in any of the Heisman rankings. I believe if he can throw up a 160+ rating against Alabama and run the table, he'd certainly be above McCarron.

McCarron should not be in consideration at this point.....

It's Klein then the rest. That could definitely change, but after 7 games Klein has done the most. McCarron hasn't done much of anything outside the National Championship game last year.

I'm glad they are finally getting it right and giving it to the best player, instead of just a good player on a great team. They got it right last year with RG3 and definitely with Newton. Ingram was debatable, but there was no one else, and I personally think he was better than Richardson, who the Bama homers wanted last year. Bradford was deserving I guess, and Tebow certainly was.

Could he if Bama wins out - He absolutely will

Should he if Bama wins out - Hell no. He is nowhere close to the best player in the nation.

The Touchdown Club has turned itself into a group-think jerkoff over the best player on a national contending team instead of giving the award as advertised to the best player in the nation.

I believe the pundits will "perceive him as the best player on the best team"...

1) you are young (in your teens or maybe early 20s).

Misread much?? He said it goes to the PERCEIVED best player on the best team these days... And yes, in that regard, AJ does in fact qualify. Damn some of you just can't wait to bust someone's balls that you lack basic reading comprehension. But yes, TUSK also definitely is a homer. Hell, aren't we all? Even the homer in me says that we shouldn't beat Bama this weekend, but by God that doesn't stop me from saying it can happen and will be a lot closer than the world seems to think. I wouldn't be surprised with the upset. I will be EXTREMELY surprised if it's a Bama blowout.

Well, the winner absolutely should be on a winning team.....

...because obviously the best players help their team win. But they should also put up good stats and those eye popping plays that define games and seasons. So there is the element of star power that should go along with it which McCarron has not demonstrated. His stats aren't exactly gaudy either. Solid, but not Heisman-like.

In years where the star power is down, I don't see the problem giving the award to guys like this. Matt Leinart and Mark Ingram are good examples. It's a yearly award. But as long as a guy like Collin Klein is making the plays he is, McCarron is relegated to second tier. Braxton Miller should be higher up the chain than him as well. I mean Tyler Russell and Johnny Football have made more big plays in big moments than McCarron.
