Akron got rid of former Mountaineer Terry Bowden as its football coach after the 2018 season, when Terry went 4-8.

All Terry did was get Akron into its only 2 bowl games in 13 years, winning the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in 2015.

So how did the Zips season go without Terry as coach? 0-11, the schools’ first winless season since 1942, under Tom Arth. And even the 1942 team tied 2 games, so the 2019 team out-did 1942 by losing every game, probably the worst D-1 record in school history.

In 2015 when Terry went 8-5 that was the best Zips record in about 40 years!

Change is not always for the better.

Keep that in mind when you're wanting WVU to make coaching changes.

Playing it safe doesn't work.

Terry Bowden wasn't going to get that program to the top of the MAC. As much as you speak of the guy he screwed himself at Auburn. There is a reason why he never got a solid job after Auburn.

They took a chance. Bring in someone with a solid name and deep Ohio connections and maybe they can win the MAC.

I wouldn't discount anyone after Year 1. Check back on this in 2021 and see where Akron is at and then make judgements.

After Terry was fired at Auburn it was assumed that either He or RR would take over for Don after his retirement. Terry removed his name from the hopper after Don's retirement opening the door for Rich. Terry decided to spend years in the broadcast booth which probably wasn't the best idea if he wanted to coach again. After Rich left he lobbied for the Wvu job stating he wanted to get back into coaching years ago. Its funny how you all of a sudden want a job taking over a team that's had 3 consecutive 10 win seasons when you passed on it 7 years earlier. If Terry wanted to get back into coaching he should have done it long before he actually did. The fact that Akron was his only suitor speaks volumes to his stock.

This is exactly right. First, who even knew Terry Bowden wasn't at Akron? Second, who cares what their record is?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result. If the results you are seeing are not what you want, then a change is the only way. That change carries inherit risks. The risk is that the change will be worse than the stagnation. However, it a risk that must be taken if the goal is to improve. Nothing great ever happened to anyone without taking a chance and trying something they could very well fail at.

And yet you're one of my most faithful readers. It's a puzzlement. If I really felt that way I'd hit the Ignore button. I won't miss you. I prefer to talk about my alma mater, not getting into a pissing match with a skunk.
