I think any time this kind of thing happens, it piques the interest of the people who are setting the rules. Don't be shocked if in very short order some things about Alabama's practices start being investigated.

This has been posted before and has gone a bit viral. Not certain how much stock to put in it. No proof is offered of anything. Just recruits next to new cars. I am not saying Bama isn't doing this ****. Just saying that I don't know what to think of this montage.

I think they are pass the point where cash is needed to lure players.

After SMU - the NCAA lost their balls - took too much criticism. See PSU for proof (although PSU was not cheating to get players). Still they should have got the death penalty. I am convince SEC is a pay for play league - no way the balance of power shifts that far without some grease on the gears.

Yup. I was kind of coming to that conclusion too. I agree, I don't think Penn State should even have a football program anymore, too. And yeah, all of this is suggesting that either the NCAA lacks the ability to do proper investigations, or is willfully turning a blind eye to certain practices because the money in college football has skyrocketed over the last 10-15 years, so why stop the flow of money coming in?

If it turns out that we are going to just wind up with conferences that "attempt" to police themselves, then I am glad we are in the Big Ten. It's not perfect by any means, but it makes plenty of money for its members, its academics are second only to the Ivy League, and I think it has a lower tolerance for BS.

That was my thought as well. If the NCAA didn't bring the thunder to Pedo St., they aren't going to drop the hammer on anyone, especially anyone in the SEC.

Not true. When you have an elite program coaches have different barriers to overcome. Depth chart issues. Playing time issues. When NU was elite back in the 90's TO had these problems. Kids turning him down because we had too much depth or they did not know if they could play on the elite level. Sure it's easier to recruit when your at the top but there are obstacles to overcome.

Also, when you pay a kid its a never ending process. For example, the word gets out that Julio Jones was given a car to go to Bama when they were down. Now the next year those recruits see Julio's ride and find out how it got it. Then they want one too. And then it continues forever and its not something you can ever turn off because the minute you say no, someone will talk.

Is it easier to get caught now or 20 years ago?

The process is easier too catch cheating. But its more difficult to penalize now because more money is involved.

If I were in charge of the NCAA my first rule of order would be to go after the players and penalize them. Going after the schools is a dumb idea. It just doesn't stop it. So if I found a player took a car, I'd immediately state him as a professional and he'd be unable to ever play college football. Then I'd work with the NFL to "blacklist" kids that took cash. If he's willing to cheat in College, he will be willing to cheat in the NFL (ie point shaving, etc). A man has gotta have a code & the NFL has always taken care of the NCAA. Kenesaw Mountain Landis cleaned up the MLB real quick by banning players for life. It was an extremely harsh penalty on guys like shoeless Joe but it set the tone for what would happen if players cheated.

No one player is bigger than the game. Someone will be willing to do it the right way.
