Got a ring should get paid rather well but in the end why leave KC if you dont have to. Cost of living alone will make up quite a few dollars playing in larger markets

I get the "he's getting older" thing, per Andy McCullough from the KC star, but the dude has proven to overcome adversity the past 8 years. My thing is, if a good amount of the same pieces are there for the 2016 Royals (minus a few pitchers), why not try for to defend your 2015 Championship in 2016, Mr. Gordon?

Trust me Alex you have a great thing going. LA is highly overrated and will not compete with the Royals.

In yesterday's Omaha World Herald, Tom Shatel speculated that Gordon could play left field for the Dodgers after Erstad takes the manager job.

Dodgers are not short on candidates, Gibson, all the Dodger guys, Bud Black.

We all want our favorite athletes to stay one more year in college or forgo the money in free agency to stay with the hometown team, but dang it if I wouldn't do the exact same thing in their shoes. Glad we had him as long as we did. Royals won a freaking World Series and he was a HUGE part. Can't ask for more than that, and if you'd have asked me when he left Nebraska if I would have taken that deal...I'd have said yes. So him and I are good. I'm sure he cares.

Time for Alex to land the best contract of his life/career. I don't expect the Royals to pony up for what he will get in free agency. Similar to Heyward in STL. I want them to sign him, but somebody is about to back the money truck up, and that is not the Redbirds.

Everyone needs to take that article with a grain of salt. He declined his option which is roughly $12.5 million for 1 year. Gordon wants a multi-year deal, and he deserves one. He can't take a 1 year option, that's crazy. He's coming off 4 Gold Gloves, 2 All Star Games and a World Series. Just because he turned down his option and became a free agent doesn't automatically mean he's leaving KC. IMO, he turned down the option so that he can renegotiate his contract. If KC comes in with a competitive offer I think he stays a Royal. I don't even think KC has to be the highest offer, I just think if it's competitive he'll stay.

That's what I'm hoping, but he is a grown man, and he will make whatever decision he thinks is best for him.

With his injuries, and loss of speed, he could use a smaller home LF. Curious as all get out to see if he goes.

I know it's his decision and who knows if he'll be lured by money/nice weather, but MAN I hope they make him a lifer. Kid from Lincoln, NE is one of the best players in the world. I love thinking about that. Please Dayton Moore, keep him here.

I'd like to see him come to the Cubs. Get a nice veteran in there with all of the pups. More than anything because they are my favorite team.

As much as I'd love to see him as a Royal-for-life, I certainly understand him trying to maximize $$$. Who knows what the future holds for him and his family.
The Royals have been wise in building their roster, and I trust their decision-making. I don't think they'll overpay. There are many options out there.

If I'm the Royals I'd throw out a legitimately competitive offer and make it widely known to the public. If they don't, it would be a PR nightmare for the team to see him walk away. If you do put out a good offer and he still leaves, then no skin off the Royals back, they did their best, and I think the general public would accept it as a "stuff" happens kinda moment.

Basically, whatever happens, the Royals cannot come in with a lowball offer. They are just getting over the David Glass is a cheapskate days, no need to go right back down that avenue again.

THIS. Declining the club option has little to do with wanting to leave for money elsewhere. It has much more to do with getting a four to five year deal that will give him security long term. Unless someone comes in with ridiculous coin and massively overpays him and as long as the Royals come up with a fair offer, I think he stays a Royal. And, he deserves a long term deal. Get it done, Royals. This is definitely one of the guys in the organization that needs to retire as a Royal.

50/50 of if he re-signs with the Royals or elsewhere. This is his chance, one that he's EARNED, to get his last big contract for his professional career. Whether he's a Royal or not, my guess is that most of you will still be fans of his. I know I will. Good luck to him on whatever he does.

Small market team loads up on high draft choices and then cashes in when they develop. Big market teams swoop in and strips the small market team of its stars. Nothing new here.
