First move I really am disappointed in with Riley. Lewis should be suspended a game at the very least.

A classic case of the tail wagging the dog. Riley needs to grow a pair and show his team who the freakin boss is. This kid is still a captain? He should have been booted off the team. THAT would send a message of no more bullsh%t. Bo cancer continues to spread.

Maybe so, but if you're Riley do you really want to take a chance at losing the team?

If Lewis is a leader no wonder we are having issues with many things! I would hope someone would stand up to his Peliniesque bs!

I hear ya. You know how I stand on this issue. Just playing devil's advocate.

I'm of the opinion that it's Riley's call to make since he has all of the information. It's tough to say whether his plan will come together for this team, and how this call fits into that plan if at all. If the team is still a mess in a few years I'm sure we'll all look back on this and say this was proof of the problems to come.

I don't think Riley left AL a captain because of a lack of balls though. From what I've seen of the guy, he seems like someone who is comfortable in his own skin and not afraid of/intimidated by pointed questions. People who are secure in themselves trust their own judgement and act accordingly. In his judgement, AL as a captain made sense at this time. I just hope he's right.

Ya know, he wasn't really bashing the fans at all this time. He was blowing kisses and apologizing for a poor performance. If he was serious about it and is working on fixing it, more power to him.

The last thing left that makes our program "special" or "distinctive" is the fan base. Many of us still feel the connection to the team and statewide pride that comes with it, but the team hasn't reciprocated that feeling in a long time. Other fan bases (see the Oregon State "told you so" thread) deride us for our passion. I imagine soon they won't have to, as we'll truly be just another team.

F*ck their feelings. These are adults. Treat them like adults. Make an adult decision. Feelings shouldn't have anything to do with it. The guy (Lewis) isn't acting like a captain/leader/team player and he should sit or be suspended until he gets his act together and shows that he wants to be a contributing member of the team.

Maybe this is Riley's adult decision, but from the info I have, which could be incomplete, it doesn't seem like it, but there isn't anything else I can do.

But you don't make a decision because of feelings.

THIS. By all means, let's let a bunch of kids hold a program and fan base hostage because they're butthurt their old buddy 'Coach Dad' got sh!tcanned out of here. GROW. THE. F*CK. UP. You're 5 games into a new season, you've sucked thus far, none of you are doing yourselves, your futures, or your teammates proud. My gawd what a pity-party.

Seriously, who can we write in the Athletic Department to voice our concerns? I want to support Riley, but this decision in particular just baffles the mind. You let this go, AGAIN, and it's clear they don't respect you one bit. Your bark has no bite, and you've lost the locker room. I'll stomach any amount of losses, if he comes out and says "For the ultimate survival and general well being of this University and this football program, I've had to make some tough decisions, and the following players are no longer on scholarship here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln due to conduct detrimental to the state of the program, and their fellow teammates: (player 1, player 2, etc.)" Seriously, who cares one damned bit about the Johnny Sh!tstick Bowl sponsored by Monsanto? 6-7 Nebraska takes on 7-6 Directional State U, that's a CANNOT MISS right there.

Fix it, once, and be done with it.

I remember a time when players would take care of situations like Lewis on their own. Will support the team and players minus Mr Lewis. Time to see who this team's leaders really are!

Still inappropriate but it should be VERY obvious that Alex is a anemotionally immature guy. He plays his *** off but just does stupid crap in situations like this because in fact he cares so much. I would rather have a guy like him doing minor stupid stuff like this than a kid that doesn't give a sh##. Dominic Raiola was/is a very similar kind of guy and we would ALL love to have a half dozen DRs on this time right now.

The difference being that Raiola was a beast on the field, led the OL, and was a strong presence in the huddle and locker room. That's why he became an NFL mainstay. Lewis is not that guy.

So much for there being any accountability for your actions.

I am not a fan of this at all! The kid is doing the exact opposite of what I thought Riley was trying to instill into his players here.

The only thing I can think of is Riley is using this as motivation tactic... a "Lewis I'm really going out on a limb for you here! I'm going to let you stay captain, and keep you in the starting line up on one condition. You prove your worth! You show me that you are capable of being a leader, and dominate on and off the field from this point on! The leash is short Lewis so I better start seeing it immediately or you are not only going to be removed of your captaincy you are going to be removed of your scholarship and this team. Do I make myself clear!"

The problem is I highly doubt that is what happened.

Logical move by RiLLLey. If he demoted him it may put Cav in a difficult position of having to potentially play another OL. There is absolutely no way they run the risk of playing more than 5 OL when the game is on the line. All future incidences should be excused for Alex for this very reason.
