the CL had an article when he was named Mr. Football. He used to go to another school, not sure on the specifics. Just thought I remembered reading that.

My USM bro-in-law just called to tell me Alford picked up the USM hat and said that in the interview he was saying that he wants to play college football and baseball so he will definitely be going to USM. I don't believe that though until I see it. I thought Channing Ward was headed towards irrelevant, Alford just beat him to it by committing to USM.

Especially with the talent he has in baseball and how good of a team USM has been having as of late, he'll be far from irrelevant. Even if he decides he wants football to be his main thing, he can still make a name for himself in the C-USA. It's not unheard of.

I have only seen him listed as a top 50 pick by one website- and they had him as the number 44 prospect.

In fact, there is a player from Stone County named D J Davis that might be drafted ahead of Alford.

I'm not entirely sure why his stock has dropped- could be because of signability, could be because of his knee injury last year, and it could be because of his commitment to football vs baseball.

unless it was a commentator given the info on him. He will just be the best player on a CUSA team. If they can go 11-2 and it not be that big of a deal, then what makes you think Alford will become a name people recognize?

Now baseball could be a different story...but even then, college baseball as a whole gets no publicity.

as much as it is if scouts recognize him. Also, DeAndre is a bad example. After his injury he was never the same and there were plenty of rumors that he had bad work ethic, so he wasn't helping himself out much after the fact. After his freshman year, he didn't make that much noise so he didn't deserve any accolades to begin with. So as far as football, him going to USM is not career suicide. You can look at plenty of NFL rosters and see players from non-AQ conferences. Hell, one of the best running backs in the league right now is from freakin Tulane.<div>
</div><div>Again, that's if he wants to make a name for himself in football, but you can't deny that USM has a legitimate baseball presence. If he decides to make baseball a living, he has no troubles with that at all. That's why I don't agree with him becomingirrelevant.

Scott Berry had as much or more to do with Alford coming to USM. USM had the #3 recruiting class in baseball last year. This is a nice start to this year's class.

Alford made the right decision if he wasn't coming to MSU. At least he will get to play in a bowl game at USM. If you want to talk irrelevant take a look at poor Channing Ward's future career.</p>

but after having seen him play in HS, I think his best position would be RB. His vertical leap is unreal.

That said, I really don't know what USM's QB situation looks like.

I agree with you. I seriously doubt Alford beats out Ricky Loyd at qb, but he will get on the field somewhere.
