What about those people on a 3 lane interstate who absolutely refuse to use the left lane to pass? They’ll weave back & forth between right and center, while the left lane sits there completely empty.

Do they think it makes them less likely to get a ticket? Or is it just exciting for them?

That’s what the tail lights that turn on when your headlights come on are for. Turning on your flashers completely eliminates people’s immediate ability to tell when you hit your brake lights which is dangerous as **** and distracting. You are a fucktard if you do this and we all hate you . Stop

It’s because in Mississippi, the left lane is always the slow lane filled with blue hairs or some dad cheating on his wife on Snapchat. You have to pass to the right and risk everybody’s life

Flashers and brake lights are BRIGHTER than tail lights and are meant to grab your attention FUCKTARD and mean slow your azz down. Otherwise you would just turn your weak azz tail lights on when you have a flat on the side of the road instead of your flashers? Sound like you have a lot of misdirected hate

We can see your taillights just fine. When your brake lights light up, we are alerted you are slowing down. When your flashers blink at us, we know you are an idiot.

If we cannot see your taillights, then visibility must be really bad, and we will drive at an appropriate speed.

If you are on the side of the road - or broken down IN the road - then using your flashers alerts us to that fact. Although, if the weather is bad, we might assume you are an idiot until we realize you are having a problem. Then we will mentally apologize, and possibly ask if we can help.

left lane drivers are often the result of a right lane that is so full of pot holes and repaired patches that are three inches higher than the surrounding asphalt . the right lane has been destroyed by all the big trucks to the point they are unsafe to drive On. I give the north bound lane of Hwy 45 from just north of Lauderdale to Scooba As a perfect example.

What's the difference in brake lights alerting you that a vehicle is slowed down, and flashers alerting you that the vehicle is slowed down? I'm not assuming idiots are slowing down when the "visibility is really bad", you can. What is is w/ you and motodawg anyway having such a hard on about flashers anyway?

Up here in yankeeland, when it is snowing so hard that you can't tell which lane you are in, someone with flashers on helps one figure out if you in one lane or hogging two lanes.

Nothing screams "stay the 17 away from me because I'm a moron" like people who randomly drive with flashers on. Do these people think we can read their minds and figure our their adulting emergencies? Works tho, I stay the hell away from them.

The point is when your flashers are on your brake lights don’t light up like they should because they’re already flashing bright. Fail.

Also, DOT studies prove what most semi-intelligent humans already knew:

In low visibility, it is much more difficult to determine speed and distance closure when brake lights/hazards are BLINKING than if you just have your driving/tail lights on.

Actually, the brake lights do work. The 4-ways stop flashing and the brake lights have priority.

Why it's not safe
  • Reduced visibility
    Flashing hazard lights can make it harder to see brake lights and turn signals.

  • Confusion
    Hazard lights can confuse other drivers, making it difficult to tell who is braking.

  • Misleading
    Hazard lights can signal to other drivers that you are stopped or moving much slower than other traffic.

  • Communication issues
    Hazard lights override your turn signals, making it difficult to communicate with other drivers.

Hazard/flasher lights are only supposed to be used if you are stopped/stalled, or if you're traveling at a significantly different speed than everyone else on the road.

Rain? No flashers
Fog? No flashers
Blew a tire? Yes, throw them on while you ease to the shoulder, and leave them on.
Running 100+ mph to catch the ambulance hauling grandma to the ER? Yeah turn them on then.

Doesn't matter since that wasn't the point being made, which was that the brake lights override the flashers.

Using 4-ways while driving is not illegal in all states; it's legal in Alabama. Whether it's good practice is another matter.

1. If the road is full of dummies with flashers on, it makes brake light and distance judging far more difficult.

2. Many newer vehicles re-designed the tail light assemblies so the “brake” and “turn signal” lights were different bulbs to limit this confusion.

3. Many older vehicles on the road do not have this feature, and the brakes do NOT override the flashers. So your point is only partially correct.

All that aside, the facts overwhelmingly suggest you DO NOT run flashers in fog/rain.
