This is big news right as spring practice starts! Best of luck to Frank and Alleghany.

He has to be close to retirement age, he will be missed. I always thought he got a lot out of a little.

very odd that if it is retirement that he waited one week before Spring workouts begin....not trying to stir the pot but it is odd

he was too old school for my taste, if something wasn't working on offense, it didnt matter to him he kept running same plays over and over and over

not much, their qb,fb, and running back return, all studs on offense and defense lines graduated. pickins will be slim this year unless they have jv talent coming up or a few surprises.

I hate it for Alleghany this is WAY late. I don't guess they could help it. I figured his time was coming he's been an HC at least since 1999. I hope they find someone who cares for the school; if so he can last there for ages. Sparta is a gergous place to be I loved scrimaging there my senior year scrimmage we took them and North Iredell on.

Coach Sessoms is one of my favorite coaches. He's a got a ton out of his kids both in effort and fundamentally. He deserves the chance to coach at a big school if he ever comes back. Only real negative was his offense it was very pastoral. The Wing can be deadly still if it's updated.

It could be a lot worse.. Roy Carter quit at North 8 or 9 days before the 1996 season started to go coach at Andrews. We had that short time to find a replacement which we did but still I bet it was a nightmare for everyone I was just little tyke then lol. Only other really late coaching change I remember was when Frasher got hired at South Stokes after they kicked Edwards to the curb late in the year. That was late June early July.

Looks like the new guy will have a short turnaround.. he will have to be patient. Their schedule's going to be the same besides re-arranging some conference games. Wonder who will be intrested. I see the JV HC perhaps due to continuity or an assistant from around the area. It's a good job for someone willing to be patient. Alleghany's a beautiful place.

Are there football coaches in other high schools who played at Alleghany?
Solomon Dixon ? not sure that is the right name

A great pick would be Drew Piscopo. He played for Alleghany in the mid 2000's. He's Coach Hampton's right hand at Ashe; only downside is that I don't think he is certified to teach. He'd be perfect otherwise considering he came from there and he knows a lot of stuff.

If I had to bet it'd probably bet the JV Head Coach who gets it due to how late in the year it is; but who knows they make a grand process out of it.

Just asking that question, how attractive is the job. Single county school, any extra perks for coach? Was he AD too?

Should be a very athletic friendly administration both in the building and the county office!! Another positive, plus the countryside is unbelievable!!
And I will bet if you win, someone in the community would give you a free Christmas tree. And deer season and trout in the New River!!!!!
