I guess you can pretty much rule out Ole Miss now, Kentucky too I suppose. MSU, Vandy, Tennessee and Florida all could go as high as the Gator Bowl, and all could also not be bowl eligible. In the end, I think Florida, Vandy, and MSU make it, although I definitely could see Vandy choking, like their entire season. Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt is finally important this year, although not in the way UT would have liked.<div>
</div><div>I just hope we do well enough or bad enough to avoid the Liberty Bowl. I'd much rather play a Big East team in the BBVA Bowl. Of course, I'd say the Music City is our realistic goal.</div>

Arkansas hasn't impressed me at all lately. I'm starting to think that game might not be an automatic loss for us after all. Funny thing is when Vandy lined up for that chip shot FG to take the game to OT, I thought "They're Vandy. He'll miss." Sure enough, he did. I thought Franklin did a terrible job of clock management and playing for the FG instead of the TD at the end of the game.

I think it's abad matchup for the SEC #8/9 team (officially #7/8 but really the #8/9 since the SEC almost always has2 teams in BCS bowls) against the CUSA champion, even though the SEC has won more then they've lost on the field in that game. I'd much rather play the ACC #6 in the Music City Bowl.

For now, it seems safe to assume thatBama, LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, and South Carolina are set to play in the BCS National Championship, Sugar, Capital One, Cotton, Outback, and Chick-Fil-A.

That leaves the other 6 teams competing for 4 spots at the Gator, Music City, Liberty, and BBVA Compass.

Remaining Games

Florida(4-4) - Vandy, @South Carolina, Furman, Florida State - likely finish 6-6 or 7-5
MSU (4-4) - UT Martin, Bama, @Arkansas, Mississippi - likely finish 6-6 or 7-5
Vandy (4-4) - @UF, UK, @UT, @Wake - likely finish 5-7, 6-6, or 7-5
Tennessee (3-5) - MTSU, @Ark, VU, @UK - likely finish 5-7 or 6-6
Kentucky (3-5) - Mississippi, @VU, @UGA, UT -best case 5-7 (no bowl)
Mississippi (2-6) - @UK, LA Tech, LSU, @MSU - even if they catch on fire the best case seems to be 5-7 and no bowl

Back to the theme of the original post, there could be a huge log jam around 6-6. I think Florida ends upinthe Gator Bowl with MSU, Vandy, and Tennessee positioning for Nashville, Memphis, and Birmingham. Picking up a 7th win likely gets us to Nashville. I don't like our chances of getting into the Music Cityif we end up tied with Tennessee and possiblyVandy, especially with no head to head match up to differentiate us.

Liberty Bowl stadium is an armpit as is most of Memphis. I drove from Georgia to see us beat UCF during the Croom era. As yougetcloser to the city from Hwy. 78, the burglar barson windows and doors announceyour arrival into the hell hole that is Memphis. I would much rather make the trip to Nashville to see us play.

Agree. Besides the SEC won't have enough bowl eligible teams to even use that BBVA bowl bid anyway. The only way we don't play in the Liberty is if UT misses the 6 win mark, or if we pull an upset. You'd have to think UT would be a lock for the Music City. A 6-6 MSU team with really no special or unexpected wins just won't get into the middle tier of bowls.

If USM wins CUSA we can't go to the Liberty so the Music City would have to take us unless the SEC gets 10 teams to 6 wins.

and honestly that's all we deserve. Let's face it, we went 8-4 last year and the Gator Bowl would have taken Tenn over us if it wasn't for Slive and the SEC putting the pressure on them. If Vandy or TN goes 6-6, and we go 6-6, the Music City Bowl will take either of those teams over us, and I would if I were on the MCB commitee. Why? Beacuse Nashville is a helluva lot closer to Knoxville and Vandy is a no brainer. Not that it matters, but I think Houston, which will be our most likely match up would beat Miami, which is the most likely Music City Bowl opponent. Also, I can drive up to Memphis in an 1 1/2 hour watch our game and be back home to watch the ball drop. The liberty bowl time slot this year is 3:30 New Years Eve on ABC.

Houston will probably be 13-0, and is full of seniors looking to make one final splash. They'll probably have a chip on their shoulder over not being selected for a BCS game.<div>

clock fine. They ran on first down, threw into the end zone on second and third down. QB panicked a little bit on third down and threw it away before he had to. There were 12 seconds on the clock on fourth down. Had they scored, AR wouldn't have had any time left to score. So Vandy got to run their plays and left AR no time. How is that wrong? He went for the TD, didn't happen.

What about hotel rooms, eating out, bar hopping and the like. Wouldn't we or TN provide more than a hometown team?

If we can somehow manage to beat Ark (who struggled mightily vs ole miss and Vandy) and everything else goes chalk, we'd have the best record of that group for sure. I'd be thrilled with the Music City Bowl at this point, and even if we lose to Ark, I think we look pretty good in that 6-6 logjam.

a team we beat 31-14. You make a good pointabout the lack of an economic impact if they decided to take Vandy. But I still think they would take the hometown team if we both are 6-6. And there is no doubt in my mind that they will take a 6-6 Tenn over us even if we are 7-5.

There are more UT fans in Nashville than Vandy fans. No brainer for the Music City Bowl.

I know the Rebs normally play LSU tough, but I just can't see them beating this bunch. UT has to finish 3-1 and right now I don't think they would beat Ark or Vandy, so they could be out unless they start playing better (for years, they've padded their record in November, so I won't count them out). Vandy should beat at least UK and certainly could beat Wake & UT (don't think they can hang with UF's speed). UF should beat Furman & Vandy. Not sure about FSU or USC. And then there's us. I don't see us doing better than 6-6. Would be nice to be 6-5 and Johnny Rebs 4-7 when the Egg Bowl comes around.

That's not true. If there was another bowl option, i.e. drop us to the BBVA Bowl, then we wouldn't play USM. But since there will not be enough bowl eligible teams to place a team in that bowl we'd have to suck it up and play the Buzzards. The SEC can't force a bowl above to take a team to avoid a same state matchup in the Liberty (MSU or OM vs USM, AUB or Bama vs UAB)

the MCB wouldn't want UT since they had them last year, or Vandy, since they're the hometown team and attendance last time they were picked was under 55k.
HOWEVER, if there's one thing history has taught us, it's that the bowl committees rarely follow logic. They are made up of folks that include boosters and businessmen with weird ideas (see Outback Bowl). So, nothing is guaranteed.
I'll predict the MCB for us, Liberty for UT, and BBVA for Vandy in a 3-way tie at 6-6, but expect someone somewhere behind the scenes to throw a monkey wrench into that.

unfortunately doesn't line up with this theory. Kentucky was selected for the 2nd year in a row in 2007by the Music City Bowl with a 7-5 record (3-5 SEC) over a 7-5 MSU team (4-4 SEC) that had beaten them soundly in Lexington. We ended up in the Liberty Bowl. I think both the Music City Bowl and Liberty Bowl set attendance records that year. I'm not sure if those attendance recordsstill stand.One potential problem that year may have been that the Liberty Bowl was lobbying very hard for MSU knowing the proximity and hunger for a bowl game of our fan base.

If they did this with Kentucky, I could easily see them doing the same with the Vols. Vandy is a toss up. Getting them in a bowl is a great feel good story, but fans in seats could bean issue.

If Tenn finishes 6-6 and isn't selected by a higher bowl, they will play in the Music City Bowl, even if we win 7 games. If all are bowl eligible more than likely Florida- Gator, Tenn-Music City, State-Liberty and Vandy- Birmingham. I think the Liberty would choose us over Vandy even though I think Vandy is a better football team thanus and Tennare right now.

The possibilities:

1. The SEC can fill both the Music City and Liberty bowl slots. In this case, MSU would go to the Music City since the Music Cityand the Liberty are equal in the bowl selection order.

2. The SEC can fill only one of those slots. MSU goes to the Music City.

3. The SEC can't fill either slot. MSU goes to the Peach Bowl.</p>

And they will pick us over Vandy for Ticket Sales alone..
BBVA was moved over the Liberty Last year ..The coaches and Presidents hate the CUSA Matchup
and Liberty has been in a fight just to keep the SEC tie-In.. I really expect MCB to take UT again, they seem to always go after and East team</p>

Would love to visit Nashville. I have never been and I would spend an extra day or two over there to enjoy the city.

Memphis would just be a drive up there and back, probably all on the same day.
