Let’s break this down, you aren’t sold on Jeff Lebby right now because we struggled for a quarter and a half (in a game we won!) against the #12 team in the country that was a playoff team last season. You will only be sold if we beat Tennessee (another playoff team last season). Do you realize how stupid you sound?
I’m convinced this level of fan stupidity is one of the biggest obstacles that holds us back as a university.
You really need to remove your maroon State Script panties because they are cutting off the supply of blood to your head(s). You act like because we won 1 game by 4 points "WE ARE BACK BABY" and will breeze through the schedule now. They had run the ball down our throat the entire 2nd half and were on the 1 and went the field goal route instead of running it down our throats again. He's 2nd guessing big time about that one and a lot of commentators have said the same. Even if they had run it and not gotten it we would have been tied, 98 yds from a score with less than 2 minutes and hadn't done squat offensively the whole half.
So lets recap, we beat one of if not the worst team in all of football last season in our opener. Big deal, they won 1 last year, we won 2.
This past Saturday we won the 1st half, hands down. Then we struggled for all but 2 plays in the 2nd half (goal line play and our final TD) Why they tried to throw instead of running it in the first half Saturday still amazes most everyone. Last season they ran it down our throats all night and the entire 2nd half of this one. They outrushed us 279-92 Saturday, but only had 19 attempts in the 1st half to 32 in the 2nd. It's a head scratcher, why he didn't come out running in the 1st, I'll never know and he's kicking himself now for it. We had a whopping 14 yds passing in the 3rdQ and 39 in the 4th until the final TD when for some reason they went man instead of prevent. They had for the game 23 1st downs to our 17. Time of possession they had 38 minutes to our 22 (1 full Quarter more than us) They beat us almost everywhere except where it counts most (on the scoreboard) but I'm not blinded by only that. I look at the big picture which is the whole season, not 2 small samplings.
It's a big win, the biggest in awhile and for that I'm most grateful. But I'm not blinded by the flashing lights and fireworks in the stadium like you. We've got 8 SEC games ahead of us and as of now would probably be underdogs in most if not all of them. We should breeze through Alcorn but w/ N IL, who knows.
Put those maroon glasses back on again for a second and read what I said about TN. Nowhere did I say I would be sold only if we beat TN, I said get back to me after we play. If we go out and play them good, but get beat, I'll feel better but I don't get a woody for moral victories or give out participation trophies like pats on the back. We'll revisit this at a later date when we get to the meat of the schedule.
