That stinks for him. I was at the Kansas game in Lawrence when he was a sophomore. He started for us at guard then and I was really impressed with how he played that season. I wish him all the best in his future and want to say thanks for being a Sooner.

My hope is that Alvarez goes on to get a degree and has a good and healthy life ahead of him.
It's sad to see the increase and randomness of so many injuries in all levels of football.
I know it's simply a byproduct of a collision sport, which seems to be more prevalent with the increase in the size and speed of contemporary athletes.

All of the attention to injuries is still relatively recent. My guess (hope) is that with the extra attention (money), they will be able to develop the proper gear to minimize injuries in the future without diluting the excitement and physicality of the sport.

Yeah, that would help.
While the speed of an athlete can't be regulated, maybe the size of the athlete can.
OU has gotten its share of high school linemen that weigh over 300 lbs. and now, players weighing 265-285 are considered undersized. This represents to me an increased danger of injury.
