Am I the only one that does not blieve the meme that Bama is better than last

year?

My eyeballs tell me different. They seemed better last year to me. They are still probably the best team, but it seems to be conventional wisdom that they are better than last year.

I don't see it. They may win the rest of the games by 40 and I guess that would prove it, but the games I ahve seen, I don't see it.

And, we are definietly better, though we could really still use COX at DL. Still, we are better.

Offensively, they're much better than they were last year. Defensively, they're probably not as good but after the way they shut Tennessee down, they're still an outstanding defense.

I'm in agreement. I don't like saying this before our game, but I still don't think they're as good as they were last year. I haven't seen every game for them, though.

I did watch the OM game, and listened to the OM people tell me how this was supposed to be the greatest defense in college history (yes, really), so maybe it's that bias.

You are not alone. You're telling me they don't miss Richarson or Baron or Kirkpatrick at all?

I think Bama gets exposed this Saturday. All this 24 point spread crap, everyone dumping on our wins so far (which are admittedly unimpressive), etc. You know the staff is going to be feeding our players a steady diet of those press clippings and quotes. We are going to hit them in the 17ing mouth. Not saying they don't get off the mat and end up beating us. But win or lose, they are going to have to earn it for four quarters.

All I know is that Bama put a 29 point beatdown on the road to the same team that we had a 3 point game with AT HOME until essentially the last play of the game. Doesn't exactly give me the warm fuzzies about going into Tuscaloosa and winning.

Some of that beatdown can be explained by UT having a tough loss to us.

No, you are not the only one. I would say that their offense is jast as good, but not better, and their defense is not as good

Take away the TN kick return and it's a 17 point win. And we are up 20 at the half where TN probably quits and we maybe win by more than 17. That kick return changed the whole complexity of the game

I don't really think you can look at point spreads against a common opponent to see who is better. No team is stagnant for one. You're either getting better or getting worse. We're going to play every team differently. So are other teams.

Our defense operates under the mantra that we are going to force turnovers. Sometimes that translates into allowing more yardage. But if you get the timely turnover(s), it really doesn't matter. And we're very capable of that against anyone.

Sorry but I can't take away the kick return. In fact our kickoff coverage has been so consistently bad under Mullen that I'm expecting one to come all the way back by Bama unless we get all the kicks deep into the endzone. We lost the game last year at Auburn because Auburn started 2 out of 3 possessions around midfield due to our crappy kickoff coverage. Its been a consistent theme with Mullen's special teams.

Why not? It's at least as legitimate as comparing scores in the first place.

The offensive is a lot better IMO with AJ gaining experience.

the Defense is better than I'd thought they'd be but I've not decided if they are as good as last year... but it's really close right now, in my mind...

I'm not usually real big on comparing scores but TN is our only common opponent and was played in back to back weeks so I think its at least worth looking at. But why should a TD scored on a kickoff return be discarded or be any less important than a TD scored any other way. We've shown routinely that we are vulnerable to big KO returns whereas on the flip side we've shown we are not very vulnerable to giving up a punt return.

the thing that jumped out at me the most (from the box) was UT's ability to run the ball...

did they get some explosive plays, or did they grind it out?
