Sorry if I touched a nerve. Just tired of my entire fanbase being labeled racist, confederates, etc. by a school that also happens to have ties to the war and people who are racist, even today.
No one is bitching about ties to the confederacy... Let's have a history lesson, shall we?
Ole Miss...
1. Calls Yourselves Ole Miss... what slaves called the plantation owner's wife (straight from your website)
2. Play Dixie (old times there are NOT forgotten...)
3. STILL waves confederate flags (they are all over the GROOOOVEEEEEE... and don't try to tell me they aren't). Your fans also brought them on sticks to the 2007 Egg Bowl
4. Wear Confederate Grey Uniforms at football games (ties to your mascot, the "Rebels..." I'm not going to touch that right now... )
5. Up until 4 years ago, played "from Dixie, with Love" in which your ENTIRE STUDENT SECTION would scream "The South Will Rise aGAIN" at the end of it (see above video). There was also a Klan rally over the decision by your president to remove the song. Student's were pissed... but the Klan rally actually HELPED your chancellor's cause some...
And you would be right that there are Confederate ties to MSU... there's a confederate statue right by Lee Hall of a confederate soldier. Hell, General Lee (our first president... the main building on campus is named for him) was a confederate General. But if you look into the guy, he wasn't know for his "loyalty to the south" or "tradeeshuns 'n Huuurrrtaagggee," he was credited for creating the structure for A&M Colleges to Succeed. Care to read about that history? Clemson, Auburn, and Texas A&M are all structured after Mississippi A&M. Lee helped them get started. Fact.
But here's the kicker... our school doesn't EMBRACE TRADITIONS OF THE OLD SOUTH. We wear maroon and white... have an MState logo... and are called the Bulldogs. We Also had a basketball team that defied state orders NOT to play in the NCAA Tournament, did anyway against a black team in Chicago. I was taught of the Ole Miss riots in Mississippi Studies in 9th grade (along with Kent State). It still haunts you guys to this day, even after the elections. There were MSU students who were also very pissed that Obama was reelected... I saw it on Facebook, but none of them made national news burning signs and shouting racial slurs in public.
Lastly, OM didn't want Mississippi A&M in the 1850s... because it was full of self-righteous aristocrats who wanted nothing to do with engineering or farming. In three years, the A&M school didn't even crack 20 students. OM sold the land they got to the state BACK to the state.
And here we are... still going at it over the same **** because NOTHING HAS CHANGED. Do you get it now?
