No coach is perfect and no coach stays for ever. He inherited a **** situations and made us a consistent winning program. He looked pretty good last season when we won 7 games. I certainly don’t think he should be booed.

I will Applaud for certain at the starting lineup. I then will vociferously root against him for the rest of the game. Like I would against every visiting coach. He is not a Pirate again until he retires. Then we see.
I hold no animosity towards KW. If he didn’t take the MD job you could question his sanity.

I will applaud and then watch a VERY important game. Hall has a lot of work to do. Willard is irrelevant at this point.

I’m with the majority here.
I wouldn’t boo or give a standing ovation.

But I will predict that the large majority in attendance give a mild standing ovation which will come after a short video tribute from the school.

I expect he'll get 2 pleasant ovations, a small one when he's introduced before the game and a larger one after a tribute video during the first media timeout. After that, he's the coach of the other team.

I don’t really get the ovation. Silence would be best. Yes, no one stays forever but the way he ended that last season here (same thing he did to Maryland) and then him going to Villanova— a team most of us should dislike because of their snobby fans— left a very sour taste in my mouth.

Thanks for the memories but you left out the back door like a snake and then eventually ended up with the annoying next door neighbor so I have to see you around all the time. No thank you.

He holds the most coaching wins here doesn’t he?

Most Big East wins with 105. Carlesimo second with 78. Willard is also second overall in the program history in total wins. Delivered 6 of our 15 total NCAA Tournament appearances (I'm counting 2020), and 2 of our 5 BE titles, also BE COY in 2016. Will be in the SHU HOF someday.

Honey Russell (1937-60): 294-129 over 18 seasons
Kevin Willard (2010-22): 225-161 over 12 seasons
PJ Carlesimo (1982-94): 212-166 over 12 seasons

For some reason a lot of people seem down on him. Snakebit by the 1-5 NCAAT record that still burns people, perhaps. Maybe the recency bias of how he left and ended up at a BE rival now, paired with the excitement people have for the alumnus who replaced him. But the more time passes the more that body of work will be appreciated at a program like Seton Hall.

I will probably clap when they announce him, but usually the opposing coach staff is kind of an afterthought in the intros, as they already begin dimming lights & start the intro music for Seton Hall at that point.

What will be interesting is will they have a tribute video, that has become very common in professional sports these days.

THIS!! He packed it in his last season and slithered out.

Guys who left legacies come back to the old teams and get videos or applause or ovations or whatever.

I was at a game when the St. Louis Cardinals played the Yankees. In the StL lineup were none other than Tino Martinez and Joe Giradi. Huge ovations. 🤷‍♂️

No confirmation that they are.

But if I were betting…I would say there will be something to that effect.
I'd be shocked if there were no video tribute. I don't require it at all, but there will be one.

I'm sorry I can't be there to offer my indifference to it.

Willard always seemed to me like a good dude with eyes on a bigger prize. I never got the sense he wanted to be here, even though this job was probably best suited for him.

Regardless, it was a marriage of convenience that benefited both sides, and I certainly didn’t take his time here for granted. Those were some fun years.
