And here we go . . . A&M and Miami Fla with Covid outbreaks

Was reported this AM that both teams are dealing with Covid, have gone to virtual meetings, etc. But Miami has to fly to Sun Bowl, and they are having a conference call with bowl officials this AM. So far, both teams say they intend to show up and play. Just like UK and UNC in basketball, their opponents (Wake and Wash State) have not reported any problems so far. Unconfirmed rumor from Miami is that it is a large number of players affected, but nowhere near 1/2 their team, FWIW.

I would like to know what a lot of teams are intending to do over Christmas break, it would suck not to be able to go home and see family, but with playoff games coming up in 9 days (UC v. Bama, and UGA v. Michigan), that is a tough spot for coaches, administrators, and players to be in. Glad I am not getting paid to make the decisions. I think the new NFL protocol makes the most sense in that if you are vaxxed, and boosted, and have no symptoms, there is no reason to test.

The fact that they are testing college kids that are asymptomatic and have zero chance of getting seriously ill is insane. We are almost 2 years into this and there is no indication that the virus will be going away. At some point you have to rip the band-aid off.

Try starting with the demographic that has higher chance of dying in a plane crash than dying of covid.

And this version of it is by far the least bothersome. I feel sorry for any person that has ever bought into the ‘if you just do this we will get rid of it forever’. If it’s not clear by now I got swamp land for you.

100% agree. Testing needs to be done away with unless somehow is showing Covid symptoms. The problem is the Omni omega Optimus Prima variant just has the same symptoms as the cold or more serious allergies...so some players would have to suffer through pointless testing to make sure it is not just a normal cold and not a Covid cold. That is a better solution than this madness though.

I am just waiting until a major game is impacted by this nonsense. UGA's backup QC supposedly has it but will be available by the Michigan game...but what if Young gets it...they going to play the national title game without him? It would be a joke.

Good thing this thought wasn’t around when Polio broke out. We would still be dealing with that as well. History is lined with vaccines that helped to mitigate and even pretty much wipe out viruses. Would it do this with covid who knows. Get the shot or don’t get the shot that is up to each individual. But history has proven vaccines work and to push anything against that history is just pushing a lie that is motivated by people who have something to gain by pushing that lie. Just look at the history of what vaccines have done for proven proof. Not hope it just goes away strategy or the I’m willing to sacrifice the weak strategy. Not attacking anyone but we have a history of proof that they do work and work well when everyone pulls on the rope in the same direction.

I am fully vaccinated and boosted and just got a negative test before going to Colorado to see my grandson, who is 5 months old. And taking my 86 year old mother, also vaccinated, boosted, and previously had Covid, so I am not against vaccines, 1000% in favor of them. Grandson won't be this age but for a moment, and I want to see him. And then I am heading to Orlando for the Citrus Bowl, UK very seldom plays in a game of this size and I intend to see it.

But, having said all the above, after two years, at some point we have to have some compromises. Don't you think the NFL policy will encourage players to get vaccinated/boosted? Which is what we all should be doing, IMO.

How so? That was the point of my OP, how are they going to deal with it so that they have a full roster on 12-31 and 1-10-22?

I don’t care about people getting Covid or whatever but this is extremely agitating when we want to bet a certain number on a game in advance. It’s not feasible to bet every game we wish five minutes before tip/kickoff. Who cares about Covid, I want Sports Bettors Equal Rights protections.

Compromise?....the people making these policies and in charge have zero compromise. People are getting arrested in NYC for trying to get food at a restaurant.
Australia has internment camps for covid. Austria is hunting down folks aho are not vaxxed.
The WH is telling people this winter will be full of death. Maybe get a clue where the problem is instead of telling everyone else what they should do.

Yep because polio is exactly the same thing. And I’m not against anyone getting a vaccine. But at this point it has shown that it may help the individual battle it but doesn’t stop anyone from getting it or passing it along. And I will add that the original point I was making is really that shutting down things involving 20 year olds that have essentially no risk and limiting capacity when we are able to go get vaccinated is asinine. I realize it’s a political venture to many but really for me it’s just watch the trail…and yes it’s appealing to get in line with the ‘educated people get vaccinated’ pitch. I mean I’m totally for vaccination. I’m good with flu vaccines and whatnot but it does not stop the flu from being around. That sales pitch has to stop. It’s not true.

1. Stay indoors to slow the spread
2. Mask up to slow the spread
3 mask up to kill the virus and save everybody
4 double mask
5 vaccinate and kill the virus for everyone
6 vaccinate then get a booster and save everyone
7 get a second booster and save everyone

To anyone who understands the vaccine, what experts are advocating, and is trying to teach/convince others to get it or convince them of the merits of vaxxing and masking, I'd recommend you just quit wasting your time. There's nothing you can say that hasn't already been discussed ad-nauseum both on this board or in other public forums. There is literally no logical argument that can change the opinion of someone who didn't use logic or sound rationale to reach a certain line of thought.

Deal with it the best you can with those closest to you. Don't beat this Lair's dead vaccine horse anymore.

All I'm gonna say is if you are an AD...or a coach...or you know a decent human being unlike most of the people here you're not gonna risk it. Yes a lot of these guys are in the prime of their life. But we dont know every players health. I'm sure there are some with diabetes or asthma or breathing issues. And lets not forget the lineman who a lot of them are obese. Yes they are strong, but a lot of them are just really fat. If you are an AD and one of them gets it and God forbid dies; your program is toast. You got these kids already laying their health on the line in a physical game, and now you want them to take a chance on getting sick? For what? Because a bunch of old grouchy boomers on catsillustrated will think their soft? Some of this is just downright sad. This has to be the only country that thinks numerous powers in the world are all somehow conspiring to do this, and every university and study done is all ran by the Reptilians for some reason. Yet it's not a mental illness to believe some invisible man in the sky is talking to you.

If Omicron had been the first iteration of COVID, would we have such dramatic responses? I seriously doubt it. Best science drives decisions, rather than emotion.
