seems like from skimming over the article, that the mother of the kid being a huge POS plays as big of a role in finding the cure as the doctors. If the crackwhore mother hadn't skipped town, the kid would have stayed on the drugs and no difference would have been noticed.

Absolutely no respectable journal would make the call that "AIDS has been cured" based on a single case report, especially from a non-compliant patient, which would have been a breach of protocol. Now, UMMC (or some other university) will do an actual controlled study on a number of patients, and gather real evidence. And protocol breaches will be systematically excluded from the study. That's the way scientific studies are done. I obviously hope this is real, and UMMC/Mississippi gets the credit, but it is way too early to make that call.

The shirt is ridiculous, but from what I can tell, the good doctor went to Ole Miss all the way through. That in no way takes away from what she did - this is great news. But seeing that you stated that she has an MSU undergrad degree, followed by an exclamation point, I figured I'd check it out. That isn't to say she may ALSO hold an undergrad degree from MSU - but it's doubtful she found the time for that between finishing med school and curing HIV.
