It's nice to be ranked, it's good for the team, fans and recognition. This team will do just fine Cohen will have them in position to do some good things, how many depends on many factors. For me it's not where you begin but where you finish so I've never gotten overly excited about pre-season rankings. All I know is that our baseball program is back and will continue to gain the respect we deserve.

to go out on a limb here and say you didn't do well in reading comprehension. For the 10th time, I'm not saying that they (SP) are going to be terrible. I'm not saying that they're going to be badass. I'm just saying that this is a concern. The main catalyst for last years postseason run, out of the bullpen, is gone. That is just a concern I have. Nothing more nothing less. Also, it's funny people are mentioning Butch and us being ok...the same people clamoring for his dismissal in year two,when I was saying we needed to hang on to him. I'm sure you would've been one of them if you had been around, given you're recent flipping on Mullen. That's a whole other story, though.

Arguing that we lost alot -- when I provided data showing that we brought back more than our contemporaries -- makes your logic the real question here.

I've been as spot-on with baseball predictions as anyone on this or any other MSU site, which Pat can easily confirm since many of those predictions came as the result of disagreements with him. I know that sport on a deeper level -- which can easily be confirmed by reading through my baseball posting history. I never ONCE said or thought that we needed to fire Butch. And I have fended off stupidity about Cohen as recently as last year. Fact is -- I said we were a top 8-12 team prior to last baseball season and stuck to those guns throughout the series' losing streak when MANY here saw fit to "call me out" after every loss. I was basically on an island by myself in that opinion for quite a few weeks. Yet, things worked themselves out in the long run didn't it?
What "flipping" on Mullen do you refer to? Simply acknowledging that we can't and don't get rid of a bowl coach at MSU -- and recognizing the fact that the Egg Bowl victory was his best in about 45 games -- does not quantify as a "flip". Am I excited about the possibilities of the future? Yes. The team came a LONG way in the last month of the season, and that is cause for optimism going forward. But let's not pretend that it was something more from what it actually was -- which was a few key plays from disaster. I am doing EXACTLY what I said I would do all along -- and can provide multiple posts proving such -- "if he gets to 6-6, I'll get back on the fence and quit bitching". Am I "happy" with Mullen? No. But I'm a helluva lot closer than I was 2 months ago -- that is true.

Which is why our SP is a concern. There are going to be a lot of teams who have maybe not a Stratton but a similar situation where a so-so pitcher turns into their stud and there are going to be a lot of teams with pitchers that are studs on paper and even in fall or summer ball who just never reach their potential. Maybe I just don't follow baseball as much, but I feel like there are a lot fewer surprises in basketball or football. If you pay attention to a team, you usually know who is good enough to break out. Still plenty of downside surprises, but it seems rarer that somebody all of the sudden 'puts the pieces together' and unexpectedly turns into a stud.
We're in good shape because we have lots of options that could emerge as go to pitchers for us so we can afford for some to be misses, but it will be a concern for me until I see which pitchers actually emerge as go to players in SEC games.
Random question: Are the balls going to be different this year from last year? I thought I remembered them saying that college will be moving to a ball more like the pros, with smaller seams that make it harder to generate movement. Just something I'm concerned about particularly with R Mitchell. I can't imagine it'd be different enough that it would make him useless, but it would suck if he suddenly couldn't be relied upon to simply eat up innings with a nothing ERA like he did last year.

Rambis you know you aren't supposed to have concerns even if other teams could have the exact same concerns. It is absurd to consider anything negative for us that might also be a negative for others. It evens out completely. And if we are all even in our weaknesses then MSU's strengths is where you should focus your attention.

Basically -- you(and others) made an outlandishly negative opinion and prediction which pissed me off. Did I go over the top in my response to you? Sure. And I apologized.
