And this, folks, is the bottom line on the black unis.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks Ninja. All you hacks that were crying..."last time I checked our colors were maron and whit!!!lol!!!" are just opening your mouths and removing all doubt, as the saying goes. It is not that big of a deal, and the players (and recruits) love it. That is all I need to know.

Coach Mullen asked me to be in the locker room, while he did the interview on the video board, as the team came in at the 20 minute mark after warm-ups. As they filed into the locker room I told them to get to their locker to see their surprise we had gotten for them for all of their hard work this year. Excitement barely describes the emotion the team had when they saw and learned of the uniforms for the first time. They were very appreciative to get a chance to wear the uniforms and it did nothing but fire them up even more for their entry onto Scott Field.

The other group that was very enthused about the uniforms were the recruits that were in attendance Saturday. Coach Mullen and I often are by the locker room doors after the game as the recruits file into the locker room. I will usually quickly ask them about their experience they had during the game and most of them will comment on how much they liked our video board and our team's style of play. Saturday, they commented just as much about the uniforms as they did the video board.

The reality of our world is that our teams and recruits think the black uniforms are "cool." We want Mississippi State to be a fun, cool and exciting place, and the types of uniforms worn by our teams are seen by thousands and thousands of people. The uniforms are another piece of the puzzle that helps shape opinions about our institution.

We knew that the uniforms were not going to have an impact on the outcome of the game Saturday. We know that the great majority of the time we will be wearing Maroon & White at home. We work tirelessly in fostering an environment and experience that the fans will enjoy and we also want to do the same thing for our teams and recruits.

And Greg Byrne continues to be the great A.D. that he is and elaborate to all the ones who thought it was dumb. Good Job Byrne and keep it up.

Players like it and recruits like it. So it's a pretty good idea to wear them once a year.

we got so used to suck that byrne actually working and working well makes him seem like a giant amongst midgets.

it would have been cool to see video of the guys getting their new unis in the lockerroom. i just hope their celebration wouldn't have involved any pictures like this:

The players get pumped and recruits like it. I especially like how it was used as a reward. Fans aren't going to boycott games because of a jersey color change that happens so infrequently. They'll *****, but they will still buy a ticket.

Yes, I know we lost.
Yes, I know our colors are maron and whit.
Yes, it doesn't have a significant effect on outcome.

I don't care. Get over it.

Agreed. We just got rid of an AD and a head coach who fell asleep in the 90s and 70s respectively in regard to college football at MSU. Byrne has done a great job so far modernizing the program and it's about time the MSU fanbase join him in the 21st century. All the bitching about gametimes, uniforms, and other things that a fan has no say in or control of has gotten to be a specialty of MSU fan.

I just didn't think it was that big of a change. Our colors are already very dark. That is why I think it worked well.

The close up on Kyle Love on the jumbotron coming out with that black jersey and his gameface on was INTENSE. Did yall notice that?

Black is not my favorite, and I agree it is a little played out. If it were me, I would go with silver/gray as our once-a-year alternate. I think a silver top and maroon pants would be sick. It also would be original. All that matters is it is something different. Just a slight change once a year to spice things up. The season can be a grind, and I think little things like that help keep everyone going.

BUT I think they would be even be better with one change- white numbers and names. Keep the maroon trim on them, but you can't see the players numbers very well- at least in person.

we used to have some uniforms that mixed silver in with the Maroon and White. Now I realize that was before the internet became what it is today but I don't remember people running in the streets or becoming suicidal screaming "silver is NOT our color". I think the MSU fans that have been carrying on about wearing the black uniforms are just lame. Its fine to be a traditionalist, but in case you hadn't checked, our tradition in football over our existence is not exactly stellar, so ANYTHING we do to make our football program more attractive to players and recruits and gets us noticed is fine with me. Status quo for us ain't been that great. And besides all of that, it just so happens that black mixed with our traditional maroon and white colors looks dang good.

or maybe white with a silver trim.

Really anything that contrasts black where you can at least see the numbers.

i haven't really liked anyone else's black jerseys, but i really liked ours. it may have been the numbers - i don't know. they were definitely harder to see for the fans in attendance.

either way, great move by byrne and mullen. adding some silver would be good in my book, too.

But this just wasn't a big deal to me. I think it's pretty easy to tell who different people are whether you can ready their numbers or not. Body type and accesories should make it pretty easy. Guys like Chad Bumphis and Brandon Heavens may seem really similar, but Chad always wears a trillion sweat bands while Heavens does not. Wilder, Dixon, Green all are very obvious from their body types. To state the obvious, it isn't exactly hard to tell who is Tyson Lee and who is Chris Relf.

Why don't we just put them in some skorts and put a big rainbow on the jersey. Maybe we could play some Streisand on the Mootube and have an all male "*** Slap for Tuition" half-time contest. You have moved to the very bottom of my "people who know about things that recruits would like" list.

If we were to ever use another alternate uniform, then I would like to see silver tops and silver pants. Maybe use them for an alternate away uniform.

Panthers, Raiders, etc. I am not sure what the hell you are talking about. Why would a recruit not like something because it included those colors?

We come out in black uni's and the entire board has a meltdown, then this quote comes out and everybody thinks it was a great idea all of a sudden. Where are all the naysayers now???

Edited to clarify: I realize not everyone on this board thought the black uni's were a horrible idea. I just think it's funny that the countless people that were so adamently against it are nowhere to be found...

had to incorporate some black into the uniform just to knock the edge off. Although I don't think the Panthers went far enough. I can't exactly call their uniforms manly. I was mostly just screwing around but I have to save that all silver uniforms would look hellagay. I liked the black but as I have said multiple times here, if they win they can come out in cocktail dresses for all I care. If Greg says the recruits like it then wear the black.
