I believe he was perceived to be too "toxic" even for Stansbury standards at the time. I dont really remember that much about his recruitment except that he left Callaway after/during his junior year and went to some prep school in Jersey.

This. Also, there were issues with grades and rumors of the NCAA looking into the team that signed him. He wanted to go out of state.

I do remember him leaving the Jackson area for Prep School... I'm glad we were able to procure a signature from Renardo Sidney and DeVille Smith and not LaQuinton... That worked out well for us!

i think many thought he was going to Syracuse

by going to the Prep school in Jersey that is similar to an Oak Hill type basketball factory . As a causal observer of recruiting , He seemed to play the AAU game pretty good. I dont think we really ever had a shot after he left MIssissippi

there are a few of his type of athleticism in the Jackson area....I hope Ray gets in there and recruits a few... stay away from the Delta, unless there is a guy that is just unbelievable...

Q's recruiting was controlled by a guy named Omar Carter who is local "talent scout" in Jackson area. He has been involved with many players in MS for years. Q definitely had academic issues and was delayed enrolling at OSU. We were involved but could never make it "work".

The Delta isn't the place to find the kind of players we need either.. Sure there are some in a decade, but all in all, I'd try Jackson, LA (Louisiana) or Alabama...

Duh...

Seriously, Q was gone from early on. We always had an outside shot with Stans, but it was dirty from day one.

Why do people think

that a player not signing with Stans means that we didn't go hard after him?

Stans was a pretty good recruiter, but nowhere near as good as some people here pretend he was...

Maybe because he could see the dumpster fire a mile away

...and he wanted to be coached by Thad Matta; someone who has consistently done well wherever he has been and has put numerous players into the league

Can you blame him? Honestly. Ask yourself if you would have wanted to go through the past few years of Mississippi State basketball as a player.

He went to a big-name university and is playing for one of the better coaches around the country.
