I'm not sure if you know this, but you can prevent suffocation from blankets by not having blankets in the child's crib. In fact, most physicians will tell you not to put blankets in a crib until the child gets to a certain age. They make things that keep your child warm without using a blanket like Swaddles, footed-wool pajamas, and other things that don't suffocate your child.
As far as the list of child proofing given, I don't think that sounds unreasonable. Pretty much all of the things listed above are things that every parent is going to do for their child, and they are all things that your doctor and any expert will tell you to do to protect your child. I do agree that some people can go overboard with the child proofing, but there are a good number of things that are just plain common sense.
