and they (really Reed) blew it. Proud of the way the bats and offense played tonight and again Stratton was good. We have to find someone more reliable than Reed however because he is simply killing us. He is simply providing hardly nothing no matter what position we put him in.

our damn coaches keep going back to him. They don't learn from their mistakes. I'm starting to wonder.

Bianco coaches just like Bertman too.....except he doesn't have the steroids to bail him out.

and now have fallen completely off. If this keeps up this season and we show no improvement next season then I hope his *** is gone. We should be hosting a regional next season and if we turn out another incompetent cluster17 then it will be time for a change.

When it comes to these situations, who the hell else would you like to put in? You have to trust your senior to go out there and hold a 3 run lead with 2 outs. I mean what else do you want Cohen to do? He put in our closer to close the game and Reed just didn't get it done. Blaming Cohen is easy to do when you're pissed we lost but damn, be realistic about who to blame. We scored 6 runs tonight, 5 of which were against one of the best pitcher in the conference. Stratton pitched pretty well and deserved the win. But when it came down to it, our senior didn't get it done at the end. That isn't Cohen's fault.

He's our closer. Its not his fault 2 of his losses have been when he's thrown over 4 innings and we haven't scored. Only 7 pitchers in the nation have more than 8 saves. Don't show your baseball ignorance going strictly on W-L.

I think if Cohen is going to change closers, the most logical guy to do it with is Taylor Stark.

It won't be Ben Bracewell at least for this weekend- he didn't travel with the team.

I would also consider Brandon Woodruff after how he pitched against South Alabama. I think he might be coming into his own.

Now that said- I like Caleb Reed. But I don't think he's an ideal closer- as I said in the offseason. Personally, I think his best role is as a set-up guy that can bridge the gap between a guy like Evan Mitchell who may pitch 5 innings, and then you have Reed for 2-3 innings and then you finish it off with one of the guys above.

We had to use Reed as a closer last year because our team was sort of makeshift to say the least. That included the pitching staff.

Maybe there's a reason that I'm not seeing.

1. He struggled as a starter as a sophomore.

2. Stratton actually pitched well out of the bullpen last year when demoted.

3. We wanted to make sure that he could start and would be confident in himself.

He has worn out by SEC play the past two seasons so I figure they were trying to limit his innings so that his arm would be live come SEC play.<div>
</div><div>It is possible though like others have said that they were either trying to motivate him, or they just really didn't have that much faith in him based on the last two seasons. I don't know that anyone other than Cohen and Butch know that answer honestly.</div>

Going to Reed again when he has been torched by SEC competition this season shows me what I already knew about Cohen. Stubbornness.
In basketball or football, personnel determines what you must do to compete. Some players take more shots, some players get more carries etc. etc. It doesnt matter what personnel you have out there on the diamond, the actual game will be played mostly the same. Everyone hits, everyone has a position. You play the hitters that get on base the most. Period.

John Cohen seems to look at the game as a basketball or football coach where he thinks its his job to scheme and plot his way around a rather simple game. There are times for stealing, bunting(late innings), hit-and runnning, etc, but John Cohen takes these things and throws proportionality out the window and instead uses nearly every opportunity that a runner gets on to meddle and scheme, leaving little chance for the big inning, the one that wins games. Big innings allow a pitcher to relax and pitch his game, not worry about giving up that tying run in a 3-2 game. They force the other team to play more recklessly. By meddling scheming and plotting, John Cohen forces us to play tighter and not reach our potential at the plate.
