Switching from a 4-3 to a 2-5 needs plenty of linebackers! We don't need DEs if we have plenty of LBs to rush from different angles every play.

Sorry, I was mostly being sarcastic, but the topic has come up a time or two in the last couple months on this board. Just rumors as far as I am aware, but many have speculated about it changing due to the recruiting class.
I just brought it up because Ward is a LB (making 3 for this class) and because we lost Porcher and people talked about losing Guy Thomas (around the time Porcher left).
Without them, the class wouldn't have any DE's so we might as well switch to a 2-5 if we aren't going to get any speed rush DEs to rush the QB.
Three has always been the target number for linebackers, four is the max we'll take. Neither number is impacted by defensive ends.
His grades are why a lot of other big tim schools have held off actually. Penn State offered, so did Arizona but that was about it.
All sorts of complaining about recruiting and here's a recruit we've been in on all year but yet, there are only 27 replies. Go figure, the experts are silent.
More to do with time of year than anything. If he had committed after the Oregon game or pre OSU execution, there'd be more excitement, but IDK. I'd think 27-30 "welcomes" would be about normal wouldn't it????
Considering the activity in other threads, the time of year doesn't make sense. Had he picked another school, I can all but guarantee the thread would be 2 or more pages of complaining.
Is that a fair comparison though? That was some exceptional (gross) circumstances that attracted other fan bases here didn't it? Which helped add to the post count? At the very least, it was a very interesting situation compared to Ward.
I could be wrong, I stopped reading it when somebody posted why we cooled on him because that stuff isn't stuff I want to read about so I am going off memory and might have it confused with another thread.
What makes you like him? I like him also, I looked at his film; he looks solid, especially in the run game. Good speed, good in traffic, getting off blocks etc. Our staff thinks that he's an outside backer, I think the OWH had a quote about him having the athleticism of a big safety playing linebacker.

I do too. His film looks really solid. And I highly doubt this is a plan B guy since the coaches have been after him all season.
