AJ's interview does provide some optimism. It does sound as though MR was too soft and too slow in cracking down. But I suppose that's his style.
The locker room needs some accountability. Reinforcing ties to former players would also help. Remember...we're f-ing Nebraska.

Wondering if the coaches thought the players would police themselves more? In my experience, if you have somebody at the top who is very authoritarian, you don't have any real leaders anywhere further down the org chart. People pretty much do ONLY what they're told because "getting creative" is never rewarded, but it might be punished.

May have taken the players a while to get out of that mindset and realize they're allowed and expected to take ownership. I know that's exactly how it was with my new boss. I had a run of micromanagers who wanted everything exactly their way. It took several months to be like, "So when you say you don't wanna micromanage and you want me to make this my own......you actually mean that? You're not just saying it because you know that's what good bosses are supposed to say? Like...I can do this project and you won't go through the whole thing with a red pen and make me change all the words to the way you would have written it?"

The good news is despite a rough season we saw improvment. He believes the bowl win was a big step in the right direction and that the buy in is strong and building steadily.
His remarks make me very optimistic.

That's what I took away from it as well, that the players will now realize if they buy in, they will be more than capable of competing with and beating all the teams on their schedule. Beat MSU, should of beaten Iowa and beat UCLA, use that as fuel to get better and hopefully make some noise next season.
