There is no reason to be optimistic that Renardo Sidney will play for Mississippi State this season. The NCAA will conduct more interviews next week with the Sidney family. The key thing here is this: The NCAA is under no legal pressure to clear Sidney to play. Sidney's legal team won't sue to get a court injunction because Mississippi State won't play him without an NCAA clearance and run the risk of one day having to vacate games.

after Christmas..

At least then the NCAA would have to make a ruling one way or another and can't just stall until it goes away.

But if we play him, then he is later ruled ineligible, then we have to forfeit all those games we won while he played. I don't see any point in risking that.

play him for one game (one game possibly being ruled ineligible in the future wouldn't be disastrous), maybe that gets the NCAA's attention and they make a decision and since they have no proof of any wrong doing then maybe they say <17> it and clear him.

id be up for a deep run in the tourney only to have to vacate those wins 5 years from now. totally worth it, imo.

But we will have won the games, and we all would have enjoyed winning the games. If the NCAA took wins away, so what? I would still know that we actually won them. Do you think Memphis fans really care about having to forfeit there games 2 years ago? Heck no. They gave up the games, but they will never give up the experiences they had when the games were being played. And face it, were not winning a National Championship this year without Sidney (most likely with him either).

of playing him. For another, trust me, the kind of NCAA attention we'd get if we did play him is NOT the kind of attention any MSU fan would want.

Or would the NCAA make us vacate the whole season, and like Patdog said we don't won't the NCAA pissed and snooping around our doghouse. They do that enough now.

saying we should play him now because they are willing to risk vacating wins down the road for a deep run now. If we play Sidney for even 1 second in any game before the NCAA makes a ruling we will immediately forfeit that game. That will hurt our RPI, overall win/loss record and SEC win/loss record if he plays in a SEC game. Renardo's status is currently "under review." HE IS NOT ELIGIBLE.

Don't confuse vacating wins in 2 years if he is cleared and then found to be guilty of something with forfeiting games immediately for using a player who has not been cleared.

Hubert Davis saying we should play him the other night has really confused some people.

The problem is not forfeiting the games he played, it'd be that they would treat us as arbitrarily as they're treating Sydney and I think they've shown us that they don't really need proof of any wrongdoing to put us on probation.

NCAA officials are somewhere between pedophhiles and petty thiefs as far as how much value they bring to society, and I'd love to say 17 'em, but sometimes you have to realize when somebody has you by the short and curlies and play along.

Why would that force them to make a ruling? All it would do is force us to forfeit every single game he played in. That makes sense.

Your an idiot. Ive got 57 other posts all about Mississippi State. Maybe if you did a little check you would realize that Im obviously not an Ole Miss fan.. sorry I started my account on Nafoom to post something about State 2 years ago. And I really dont know how to get the nafoom off.

By the way, I will take credit for breaking the Sidney story when it happened last Spring. Thanks

complain about Stans only winning SEC West titles, never making it to the Sweet Sixteen, or winning the SEC outright, but you dont want to play Sidney?

MSU basketball isn't going to accomplish any of those goals without Renardo Sidney this year, at least in my opinion. If we play him and make it to the sweet sixteen and it gets found out later that he was ineligible, so what?

We take a year off a banner that we wouldn't get w/o him..

Play the man! Free Renardo!

probably means probation. The only way to avoid it would be that the NCAA might be afraid of the PR scandal that might be associated with people paying attention to the fact that they're refusing to allow somebody to play because they are suspicious, when they admit they can't prove anything.

Playing Sydney AFTER HE IS CLEARED could result in forfeited games, which is not as big of a problem.

But knowingly playing somebody that has not been deemed eligible will bring a shitstorm MSU probably can't afford.

He plays, we forfeit. If MSU gets a court order (which they are not going to attempt), he can play. If he plays under a court order, then later is found in violation, MSU has to forfiet any games he played in.

Why just throw these games away when the team has a decent chance of legally making the tourney, and possibly making the sweet sixteen, anyway?

I realize that. But some people seem to think we can play him right now because of what Hubert Davis said the other night.

And as far an injunction goes, you are assuming a judge would grant the thing.

If we play him now, without a ruling, there will be no banner. We will forfeit games as soon as he steps on the floor. We won't qualify for the NIT, much less the Dance.

I wouldn't go around calling people idiots when you obviously can't spell and don't know which message board MSU alumni/fans/students typically register with.

If NCAA certifies him as an amateur, he can play. There would be no negative consequences to MSU unless it was revealed later that we had committed a recruiting violation. Once they have certified him we have no liability regarding amateur issues.

But what kind of tool goes around correcting grammatical errors in a message board post? But Sidney is done. Much like the Cam Newton saga, people need to move on and accept the season with him. We can still have a good year without Sidney, so accept it and move on.

someone who is obviously not very sharp is something that could damage my internet cred.

As far as you calling me a tool, well, I think calling someone a tool speaks for itself.
