I guess this is what Dan referred to a few times when he noted he could not post details.

"In just four days, Seton Hall will share a historic announcement that will touch every corner of our university, and every member of our community, forever."

For 170 years, Seton Hall has been a place of knowledge, faith and transformation. Now, we are preparing to begin the next chapter together, and we look forward to unveiling this exciting new era to our students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, friends and all who call Seton Hall home.

The excitement begins Friday, September 19 on social media. Follow along on Instagram @SetonHall and @SetonHallAlumni.

And this is just the start. Look for a special message in your inbox on Monday morning.

How about Pope Leo will be visiting the US and will spend time at SHU and will say mass in the chapel on campus?

If the "big news" is we are buying/merging w St Elizabeth's then maybe we have room to build a proper arena someday? Google maps has the campus distance apart at 12.5 miles and 29 minutes. Longer than the Rock but similar to the trip from campus to the old CAA.

Now that would get my attention.

New fundraising/capital campaign? Would be a weird thing to hype up and then use Instagram to announce it?

But I guess we will see on Friday

Building an on campus arena with what money? We can't even buy Sha's contract out if he has another flunker this year.

Unfortunately that’s not a reality, as it will cost in excess of $100 million and unless you can get other commitments to use the arena and generate revenue, it will end up losing money each year.

And if you think South Orange isn’t happy, I can’t imagine that the surrounding high end neighborhood is going to want that kind of traffic.

So Morris Township would just greenlight an arena built in town, not caring at all about what kind of affect it would have on its infrastructure? We can all wish it would be that easy.

Put the arena in the old Livingston Mall property.

Actually I believe this isn't far from the Jets Training facility...which if so, isn't really in a residential area, and isn't far off the highway. Note: I am not trying to hype the "on-campus arena" talk, just pointing out that the location itself might actually work.

I think Hall85 is correct. It's not even a money issue. Hypothetically, even if SHU had 10 billion dollars, they can't bypass local zoning laws. I hate to have the defeatist attitude, but the reality of the situation is that South Orange has put specific zoning laws in place to make it nearly impossible for Seton Hall to expand in any meaningful way (not just terms of athletics, but dorms, etc.)

If you ever have time on a rainy day dig into the zoning laws for what they deem the "university zone". It's unbelievably restrictive (which is the understatement of the century). After reading it I remember thinking - "Wow, I had no idea how f'd Seton Hall really is..."

It’s very much in a residential area. But this isn’t going to be coming up in the foreseeable future anyway.

of course...why not wait till 3 am?
Historically the only things institutions announced on Fridays were 'bad news', the rationale being you had the weekend to distract and dilute the anticipateed negative impact. Since this announcement is supposed to be highly positive I have no idea why they are choosing to do this on a Friday.

It’s connected to a big event taking place right now, which you can really only do on a Friday or Saturday night on campus.

I have family members who are there right now and can confirm a splashy announcement of the $225 million campaign (one poster should be very happy about SHU launching a Capital campaign)

I am at the soccer game and can confirm that SHU leads Providence 1-0 at the half.
