GC School board has OK'd the donation. It will most likely be built Summer 2023.
There were concerns of what would happen to Marion Kirby Stadium when Page is rebuilt (sometime in the future), and its not clear what the school being rebuilt will mean for the stadium, yet. The school board advised the donors of this fact, and said it is a risk they are willing to take.

The field at Marion Kirby has always taken a beating with soccer, lacrosse, football, field hockey, etc, as well as Middle schools using it for football and soccer. Elementary schools use it as well. The field is used as a community field. Having a turf field at the stadium has been in talks for close to 15 years now. It would be ideal for how much wear it see's every year.

Page would be the first school in Guilford county with a turf field, potentially creating a domino effect for other schools to follow in their footsteps.

When we lived in Southern Indiana the local corporations partnered with the school system and helped pay for turf fields. Every high school in Evansville had artificial turf, as did many of the surrounding area high schools.

How are other GCS schools going to follow in Page’s footsteps when Page is only transitioning to turf via an anonymous donation?

That being said, this is a great thing and I wish more successful alumnus would donate to their high schools instead of their colleges/universities.

Hopefully one end zone will say Page and the other will be Pirates. Also, a Pirate mascot at the 50!

This is great for everyone involved. With as much as use as the field apparently receives, a turf field is a great donation. Ground maintenance is minimal and can withstand heavy traffic. For games in the rain, traction isn't as affected either.

I’m sure there are tons of donors waiting to give money to Smith…. Lol

The only other school in Guilford that could ever dream of funding this without School Board assistance is Grimsley ..

Well…. Maybe Northern Guilford
