apparently, we now hold the record for number of flyovers. i counted 9 (and a half) before my crew left 5 minutes deep in the 4th quarter. kinda weird that they were all passenger planes, but i guess they cant all be a10's.**

I busted out laughing when the airbus A320 from FedEx flew over right in the middle of the National Anthem. This older lady turned around and looked at me like WTF? I said FedEx is doing our flyover. She never did get it.

I'm surprised the record, if official, is that few. I attend a lot of Memphis games, and a steady string of incoming traffic flies over the stadium when the wind is blowing the right direction. I've seen at least that many fly over regular season games multiple times, including the national guard's C-17's stationed in Memphis.

Same here, told my daughter that was either Fed Ex or the worst fly over since Doc took to the Golden Triangle airspace in his biplane. Once I saw the landing gear drop knew it was one of Fred Smiths air force

I mostly don't hear too much of them but every now and then I'll have one sit me up in bed at 11:30 in the middle of Hernando. Would honestly hate to live on stateline or Shelby drive and the likes.

Flew on these many times. Those engines scream, extremely loud. On most bases we flew into, we had to tiptoe around "quiet hours" at night due to the noise these things made when they arrived/departed.

The C5s were

unreal. Around 250' in length. I was amazed seeing those things get off the ground.

I thought the world was ending first time one flew near my home.

They didn't land from or take off towards the north often. Thank God. If have never heard one with the throttle open, you are missing out. Incredible.

I met a guy that was part of a crew on the C5. Said they flew to Ramstein AFB and part of the way back was an empty run so they were playing ultimate frisbee in the cargo area.

They fly out of the air guard base here in Flowood often. I will park on Flowood Drive extension near the base entrance(there's a BBQ joint there currently) and watch them when one is about to take off. They definitely have an entirely different sound than the C 17's that fly out of there more frequently

for the record regarding the flyover record, i dont know for sure if it was a real record, i just wanted an excuse to talk about the planes flying over, and the apparent location of the LB in the flight path. for the first half, there seemed to be one every 10 minutes or so, then it hit a lull somewhere during the 3rd.

that first one could have passed for a poorly-timed flyover.

When they can get off the ground. C-5s have terrible mission capable rates. But I do love seeing them fly. I remember the first time I ever saw one land . I had to pick my jaw up off the ground.

I don't hear them unless it is bad weather and they come in on a different approach, but I can sit out on my patio and watch the lights. They start about 9:30 or 10:00pm landing from the north. They start leaving about 10:00 10:30 heading south. This continues until about 3:00am. From my vantage point in the OB it looks like they sometimes land and take off 2 at a time. Pretty impressive, but they do move a lot freight overnight.

It's not that bad. I live on Swinea just south of Goodman. Swinea lines up with their approach. It's like living next to the railroad tracks, which I did in OB. You get used to the noise.

When did they switch to C17's? They built hangers off Shelby drive specifically for the C5. Those things are huge.

We started about a year ago and just sent the last C-5 to the boneyard last month. C-5 is just not a Guard friendly airframe. Requires a lot of maintenance for each flying hour and has been previously mentioned, reliability was poor. We were the last of the Guard bases to transition to the C-17 which was huge. It means we have a mission for the foreseeable future. Nashville lost their C-130s and replaced with UAVs. Many bases lost their mission all together. Good news is the C-17s will not bother your sleep. I can hardly hear the things on base when they move around.

About 3 stories to the flight deck, about 6 stories to the T tail. Massive aircraft. 4 different hydraulic systems operating at the same time for flight controls. 28 tires in all, 4 just on the nose landing gear.
