The OP story certainly has nothing to do with Rutgers...totally agree. Which is why its befuddling that there are people here that think the story makes Rutgers look bad.

It does, however, have something to do with an ex-RU coach...hence the headline. And hence the story.

You're criticism now also seems to have gone away from the headline and to the story...
Cripe- are you just an idiot or just one of those people that have to be the smartest person in the room while the smarter people laugh at you?

The OP- people are pissed that the story has nothin to do with Rutgers but the headline is 100% to make Rutgers look bad. If the headline was that Minnesota HC ect... then no one is pissed if the story mentions he once coached here. IT is all about the Headline

The other two- that you want us to comment about, is about Rutgers in th story so they were Headlines Properly and neither had the ill intention to make Rutgers look bad. Both the HL and Stories align. And why is that- because you can't make Rutgers look bad in them.

The criticism about the stories are based on the headlines.
Fo F-s sake, you are just stupid tiring

No need for personal shots, my man.

And again, I disagree that the headline makes Rutgers look bad. I'll say again, NJ.com has no agenda against Rutgers and there's zero reason for them to write headlines that make Rutgers look bad. Rutgers is in the headline, again, for clicks.

And agree, neither of those headlines or stories make Rutgers look bad. The only reason I linked those stories is cause NotInRHouse said NJ.com only writes about Minnesota when it makes Rutgers looks bad. Glad to agree he was wrong about that. He's been wrong a bunch in this thread, unfortunately.

Again, lets grow up and stop with these petty personal insults. If I'm tiring, lets end this thread. Cause like I said, lots of wrong info in it from a bunch of people.

You are very much wrong. And personal shot was because you are a person that obviously feels you are right no matter how wrong you are.

What am I wrong about?
WTF is wrong with you?
I don’t want to direct this at you because it may result in a slap from mods but wow- there are some people on here that really are the smartest person in the room in their own mind while the smart people just shake their heads and laugh later how f-int stupid and ignorant they are. I mean like, “They talk, rinse, repeat the dumbest crap I ever heard and think they are smart”
Not saying you are that dumb, stupid, ignorant person…but there is one person in the thread that at least 90%+ of the others would all agree fits the title…

I asked you a question and then you respond with this? Yikes.

I frankly don’t care what anonymous message board posters think…I’ve met plenty of these posters off the board throughout the years and they wouldn’t label me any of that….

Anyhow, I’ll ask again, you said I was wrong in my prior post..and am just curious what you think im wrong about.

The pursuit of clicks by mainstream media is a losing battle - sit back and watch.

I cancelled the Start Ledger when that hatchet job reporting resulted in Bob M being fired. That was in December 2008. Still happy with that choice and saved over 5k.

Totally agree mainstream media is in danger. With all sorts of blogs available, Twitter, etc, mainstream media is certainly hurting. Agree 100%

There are about 9.2 million NJ residents of which about 350,00 of the over 550,000 living alumni live within the state. I would say the vast majority of them have a generally positive inclination towards their alma mater's athletic programs, although, I have run into some RU grads who for whatever reason are not big fans of the University. Of the remaining NJ residents, maybe 1/4 of the population has positive views regarding Rutgers athletics, 1/2 indifferent, and about 1/4 for whatever illogical and asinine reason are Rutgers athletics detractors. Those aren't scientific #s, but I bet they are pretty close. So, the Star Ledger which as a for profit organization is always looking to grab the largest amount of interest for a story among its readers, is naturally going to trend negative on Rutgers athletics, to argue otherwise is total ignorance of how media companies in that space operate. Positive headlines and stories about Rutgers athletics, and football in particular, just don't generate the clicks compared to negative headlines. Does the Star Ledger inherently have it in for Rutgers athletics, I would say no, but they aren't supporters either, they know what draws the clicks, that is negativity, and that is what they go with plain and simple. If Rutgers athletics, and in particular, Rutgers football, ever can win the support of the majority of New Jersey residents the tone of the headlines and stories will change across all media, local, state, and even national.

You would be right that advanced media doesn’t have it out for Rutgers athletics. As I’ve stated here numerous times.

I never claimed advanced media was “supporters”..I don’t think any media company that covers a team should be supporters of that team they cover.

Let's be honest. I travel all over on business the far majority of media (TV, online & print) in most states overwhelming support their local schools. NJ is one of the exceptions. A lot of it has to do with how much there is to do in the area. For example I was in North Dakota last fall. Nothing but positive media for UND & ND St. Rightfully so but there are only really like 10 things (and that is a stretch) to do in ND.

I’m not saying there aren’t any. Plenty of media outlets that cover sports cover them as fans. I don’t think that’s the right way to do it…and as I said earlier in the thread…is bad for journalism

Just incorrect, and please stop posting non factual information.

Here's a story about Minnesota's coaching praising Rutgers DC.

Here's a story about Minnesota hiring a former Rutgers coach.

They write about Minnesota plenty of times when there is a Rutgers connection. And its certainly not always bad.

Please stop.

EDIT: And even this story the thread is about, who in their right mind is reading that and comes away with the conclusion that portrays Rutgers negatively. Nothing in that story portrays Rutgers negatively.

If NJ.com is paying you, they're not getting their monies' worth.

The ex comment as yes points out...yikes...

Please do better.

Seems like he works there and/or has some kind of connection.

You see this on this board with other things, where people people/entities on anti-RU crusades have one oddball defender.

I remember when we joined the B1G the AD did a "tour" and they came to a bar in Hoboken. Politi was there and some coaches from even smaller teams (I think one was women's tennis) called him out. This isn't a gripe limited to this board.

RU has given fair fodder over the years (Rice and Flood) but geez, the attempt to tie RU to everything from a Minnesota scandal to a death in Newark to what they did with Mulcahy goes way beyond, any objective reader would think so. It's to the point where other fanbases went after the Athletic hit piece. It's just tiring.

And I defend journalists and journalism but there is no need to to write BS headlines, ever. There's enough real things going on to write true headlines about, sports inclusive.

OK, who are the other posters here that have said so? I don't see anyone agreeing with you, or the other times you have rushed to defend NJ.com.

I don’t care who agrees with me. I know what I’m saying is facts…all good. If you don’t believe it, fine. That’s an nj.com problem

You are wrong about the HL not being complete BS...that is what 90% of this thread has been about. But again, you are going to find another way to try to save face.

I don’t need to save face. We agree to disagree.

No one is wrong..whether the headline is BS is an opinion. something BS to you may not be BS to me.

The only thing I’m arguing as fact is NJ.com doesn’t have it out for RU as many posters here are claiming

headlines that tend to make things look differently will be what's remembered when casual fans ,or Jersey residents that don't follow sports, think about Rutgers .

It's a grab their attention with a misleading headline, they'll forget about the article , but remember the headline.

Again, here is where we disagree.

I don’t think the headline “tends to make things look differently”.

You guys do….all good. As someone who works in digital media…it’s all about clicks and I think it’s a perfect headline that makes the reader wanna click. “Who is the ex RU coach, what did he do, when and where did he do it”??

The Star Ledger lost credibility about 15 years ago. It used to be an excellent paper and trustworthy source.

It’s a shell of itself.
