Earlier this week UNC settled with whistleblower Mary Willingham. Details yet undisclosed. Perhaps Thomas is thinking $, in light of the Willingham settlement? Whatever the motivation, more staff may come forward, showing how widespread this scandal is. Exercise and Sports Science, Drama, Geography, Philosophy, and Communications were among those other academic depts that accommodated academically challenged athletes.

And the NCAA failed miserably again. When Cheryl Thomas reported the incident and supporting docs to the NCAA, the NCAA passed her concerns on to Rick Evrard, a lawyer hired by UNC to handle NCAA matters.

From the article: "NCAA Associate Director of Enforcement Kathy Sulentic has forwarded to me information that she received from you regarding possible NCAA rules violations,â€￾ Evrard wrote. “The University and the NCAA are currently involved in a joint investigation concerning possible NCAA rules violations and the information you submitted is a part of that investigation.â€￾

He asked her to contact him. She told The N&O she isn’t going to do that. She said she had given the NCAA her documents and was irked to find it had turned the matter over to a lawyer for the university."

Given the NCAA's behavior, maybe it's time for Congress or the US DOJ to step in.

How can UNC get away with this and still be accredited by the AAU? We know the NCAA won't do anything, but don't tell me the AAU is just like the NCAA.
