I'm heading down to New Orleans this weekend to catch the Saints/Jets game and wanted to get some opinions on where to eat. What are your favorites for:

1. Po-Boys/Muffalettas
2. Traditional cajun food (gumbo, etouffee, jambalya)
3. Seafood

Not looking for anything fancy, its just me and my brother and a friend, so we'd like something pretty casual.

I've heard they also have a place near the Quarter but I don't know where it is.

Gotta got to Mother's. For a Muffaletta go to the place it was invented, Central Grocery in the Quarter

For your muffaletta and po-boy needs. Pretty cheap Abita on tap to go with it. Tends to get a long line, though.

This. If you want a hot muffaletta go to Napoleon House. And Mothers has some of the best poboys ever.

Best at about 2pm when you're nursing a raging hangover. Big greasy burger and a baked potato and then throw some junk with a Monsoon. Instant happiness. It's cheap and it's awesome.

I've never eaten there but heard good things about Mandina's. It's doesn't accept cards either.

I'd definitely try and get to domilices for po-boys, dragos at the end of Poydras for the best oysters you'll eat and jaquimos for really good seafood. All three are fairly casual and not too expensive. I'd stay away from acme and mothers. They are both tourist traps with extremely long waits.

And their other dishes (Etoufe, Shrimp Creole, Gumbo, etc) are pretty dang good. It is more locals than anything, and there is always a wait. They too have Abita on tap. It is between I-10 and I-610 on Canal, before you get to the cemeteries.

Frankie and Johnny's uptown is good too: http://frankyandjohnnys.com/ ,
especially when the old guy up front starts singing over the PA along with Sinatra on the Juke Box.

Love the Burgers and a Monsoon at Port of Call: http://portofcallneworleans.com/

Love the Sandwiches at Cafe Maspero

Love the food at ACME: http://www.acmeoyster.com/

Love the Charbroiled Oysters at Drago's: http://www.dragosrestaurant.com/ ,
the one at the hilton, haven't been to the one in Metarie

You have to really go out of your way to get a bad meal. I went in this hole in the wall called Evelyn's Place on Chartres once. Got an outstanding bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo in there.

I'm going to the game too. I'm Effin' Stoked about Sunday afternoon.

no brainer for fried seafood platter and muffaletta

platter = Cafe Mespero (plate is overloaded, fried perfect and probably the cheapest price in all of New Orleans for a seafood platter)

muffaletta = Central Grocery (no where else is even a close 2nd)

Mespero's also has great jambalaya, creole and poboys. Central Grocery might be closed on Sunday so hit it on Sat. Both are on Decatur

for a poboy go to parasol's bar off constance is an irish pub and is known for their jambalaya and roast beef poboy. getcha an abita andy gator as well. for creole food go to frankie and johnnie's off isabelle street in uptown for seafood - well, it's new orleans you're gonna be hardpressed to find a place that doesn't serve good seafood. but for real definitely check out parasol's you can't go wrong there.
