Another point lost by the "NCAA was going to hammer us" crowd.....

We've hammered to death that the NCAA didn't have jack on us, other than a couple minor violations. But what is being forgotten is that we had pictures - indisputable proof - that the NCAA investigator was having an affair with a booster of our in-state rival. The very rival who instigated the investigation. Sources don't come any more unreliable. In other words, WE had the NCAA by the balls, not the other way around. Honestly, LT's failure to tell them to take a hike is one of the biggest blunders in school history (as is his entire tenure).

To me there is no good argument that I would EVER believe that would tell me we had to endure the Croom years for our program to have been able to get where it is today. No doubt the program needed cleaning up, but a Jimbo Fisher or Gary Patterson or a guy like Dan Mullen could have come in and done that just as well or better IMO than Sly Croom and any of those coaches would have had a MUCH better understanding of modern day college football than Croom. Croom hadn't even been affiliated with college football for the 17 years before he became our HC. And for those saying nobody wanted our job, we KNOW Fisher wanted it and there is conjecture that several others did as well. Apparently Slive was LT's puppeteer during that particular coaching search so nobody that was not a minority was ever seriously considered.

Well, we did in fact go on probation......

So that was going to happen either way, Croom or no Croom. If there was a deal to lessen our probation because we hired a black guy, then that **** is pretty horrible on LT's, the SEC's and NCAA's part (or whoever else was involved). Even if it was a witch hunt, apparently we got caught, so we can't argue that.

If we were seriously going to get treated differently if we didn't hire Croom, then that's just sick. I mean, there were other black coaches out there we could have hired - Charlie Strong, again. That makes me believe that it was just a publicity scheme orchestrated by Alabama brass and the SEC to look good and get their guy a job to make themselves look better.

LT was a big part of this. He allowed it to happen. Truth is probably in the middle. I'm sure LT was more than welcoming of the SEC's 'favor' to us.

Another excellent point. Some of our fans act like Crxxms was the ONLY coach with "churructer," integrity, or whatever the hell other character traits they want to come up with that could "clean up the program." The fact is you can be a disciplinarian without running off 35 players. You can clean up a program without taking dynamite to it. But Crxxms chose to take dynamite to the program. That's unforgivable to me.

The big point some of you are missing is this.

We have the opportunity to do some really good PR stuff here but some of our fans just won't let go and move the 17 on. I will be the first to agree Croom was not a good head coach. He was stubborn and un-innovative. But he is GONE and won't be coming back. There's no freaking sense to keep piling on, especially when we have the opportunity to spin this and do some damn fine PR if only some of our whiny ***** fans would STFU. With Kyle Veazey's book coming out and by taking advantage of this documnetary we could really set ourselves ahead of the ******** up north and gain some ground on the rest of the SEC as well.

This is the classic life has given us lemons so let's make some lemonade situation here folks. The man is GONE! The man who asked him to resign is gone too. Here's OUR chance to do some good PR. Let it the 17 go ********. If you can't say anything nice then STFU. We have a chance to change some long held national perceptions about MSU and Mississippi in general if some of our fans would just quit acting like butt hurt red-neck peckerwoods. Most of the rest of the world outside of MSU fans think that is exactly what we are, red-neck peckerwoods. By attacking old Sly, way after he's gone mind you, and clinging on to this hatred of him all you are doing is perpetuating the old stereotypes.

Perception is what may get that 5* recruit from outside of Mississippi to come visit and consider playing ball here. Perception is what drives the vote casting in the polls. It was the NCAA's perception of Jackie that had them basically camping out down here and willing to believe any and all the BS those ******** up north fed them. Time to change peoples perceptions. The best way to do that is to quit acting like a bunch of butt hurt ********. The man is 17ing gone folks and he probably isn't ever coming back. But if he ever does I would hope we politely applaud, smile and act gracious, regardless of how we actually feel.

We've got over some coaches we had here that were worse. If you don't think we've had worse then you're either too young to remember them or you are and idiot. Time to get over old Sly and start to change peoples perceptions of us down here.

What the basketball team did, at least in my opinion, is so far from the hiring of Croom that I don't see how you put the two on the same level.

Exactly what advantage would you like to see taken of this ESPN video? We've already hired and fired him. What's left?

good job...........

wish I had written that. I dreaded the documentary. I knew it would bring out the worst and it certainly did. First post I saw after the show insulted the man's dialect which led to a whole thread of subtle racism, some not so subtle. There are often times I wonder if anybody gets how bad that looks. I wonder why DS lets it go.

Croom did some good. As my buddy Tyler pointed out, he got the players to go to class. That was a huge change.
