No White Jerseys
State had hoped to wear white uniforms when it faces Memphis to coincide with the school asking fans to wear white as part of a white-out of Scott Field. To satisfy NCAA rules that require road teams to wear white, State asked Memphis to switch. Memphis denied the request, according to State officials and a Memphis spokesperson.

All it does is probably tick Strickland off a little bit and maybe Mullen.

Or is it payback from their coach, b/c didn't a couple of teams no comply with LSU's jersey requests a few times the past few years (can't remember if we were one of them or not)

You can't "make" a road team wear the dark jerseys. They have to agree to do it. So LSU was OK with doing that the last two times they came to Starkville. The Fighting Tigers even wear purple at home for one or two non-conference games each year, and they've been doing that since Saban coached there.

But as for Memphis, the refusal is probably all they've got in their bag of "macho head games."

The SEC rule is that the visiting team has to give the home team permission to wear white if they want to. That rule was passed after Florida and Vanderbilt (but not MSU) had forced LSU to wear purple at home in the past.

It's their call. It's going to be hot. I'd want to wear white too.

which says that the home team has to get the visiting team's permission before wearing white at home. Since there was no SEC rule forcing the visiting team to grant that permission, Florida and Vandy refused to grant it.

I thought "has to give permission" meant that it was contingent on the visiting team giving permission. But the rule is that the visiting team is forced to give the permission.

the rule about "visiting team wears white" is a holdover from the days when the games were broadcast in black & white so the viewers could tell them apart. Hopefully, the qb can tell the difference between a receiver in a blue jersey compared to a maroon one. Of course, if Alabama was playing Ohio State or something like that, then a distinction would have to be made (but again, everyone should be rooting for the meteor in that case).

the Jackson State game was to both MSU and JSU. It is Memphis' Super Bowl and now, since Ole Miss is off the schedule, we are automatically their big rival game.

it should look similar to this(today) and the field will be in shadows
<div class="hbhWxHour" id="hbhWxHour2">

<div class="hbhWxTime"><div>6 pm = 87 degrees, 7pm = 83 degrees, 8 pm = 79 degrees
</div></div>

It will be early September in MS. Assume it's going to be hot even at 6, 7, or even 8 pm and beyond. If you can wear white, wear white.

white vs. dark color only matters in direct sunlightbecause the the dark color absorbs more light (heat) and white reflects more light (heat).

/Night game = makes no 17ing difference what color you wear.</p>

here's an easy idea for this season's inaugural episode.

and no football game can ever be considered "hot" unless it meets the white-hot standard set by the 2000 Memphis game.

I'm also well aware of the time the sun sets. It will still be warm and bright (assuming no clouds) at kickoff and for a good chunk of the 1st half.

It's simple, if you are Memphis and you are asked to accommodate the home team by wearing a disadvantageous color (how disadvantageous is irrelevant, I know it's not going to be a deciding factor, it's principle) for that time of year, you say "NO". I'd expect us to do the same if the situation was reversed.

If they told us no problem earlier in the summer when we planned this and now they are bailing because they couldn't get jerseys finished in time, I'd naturally have an issue with that.

They don't sell out home games, why would they sell out a game 3 hours away?

Quit being a douche about it. You know this is the biggest game of the year for their team. Just like UM would be/was.

Channel 3 television in Memphis led their sports broadcast at 6pm tonight with words like these, "The game isn't until next weekend, but the University of Memphis is already claiming one victory over Mississippi State..." They went on to say Memphis denied our request to wear white. AM 560 radio in Memphis has had several shows saying (about Memphis State), "We can't get anything out of the coaches, practices are closed, etc." Then, they went on to try to spin it as "the fans deserve better," rather than their own incompetence at digging out the news.<div>
</div><div>Having lived in Memphis over 50 years, I'm more ready than ever to open the season with a complete humiliation of Memphis State. A disastrous football season for them could see the loss of their President, AD and even more talk of becoming a basketball-only program. I'd love to see us show no mercy and run-it-up!</div><div>
</div><div>Anybody remember what Felker and Barkum did to Tiger High?</div>

There is a big *** stadium on one side of the field don't you? I mean, the sun will still be up and all but there won't be any hitting the field. I'm not hating on Memphis or anything, but they didn't do this because of the heat or the sun. They did it because there new coach is kind of a dick. It's becoming more-and-more apparent every day to those of us who live here. Never seen this town so unexcited about football, and this is where "unexcited about football" hangs it's hat.

It's obvious that they aren't trying to be dicks, but rather just trying to fit in and support our white out game. I for one applaud their effort, sportmanship, and contribution to our win collumn this year.
