I rarely wish ill will on recruits that spurn us but b/c of the way he handled his recruitment with the handshake and all he now joins the list.

Basically I just hope he sits 4th on the depth chart for 3 years before he finishes out at Jacksonville State

Granted I think Mullen screwed up by promising too many guys they could play RB b/c the # of RB's we are signing was apparently a concern.

He's the only RB currently committed to UT. There's a FB and him. That's it. I'm sure he's more concerned about that than how he appears in you guys eyes.

I wish he had stayed. I have to admit I wondered why we recruited five RBs too. The explanation that some wouldn't play RB was good enough for me. I guess it wasn't good enough for him.

Oh well.

UT hires a guy we had NO interest in last year and a week later the guy bolts to a school that signed 2 5-star RB's last year. Hard depth chart to crack and not even a hotshot coach to blame. So this isn't even like Kenny Ashley - while that was crappy at least it was to his "dream" school so while you hated it, you understood.

Other than an additional 30,000 fans in the stadium I don't see what they really offer that we don't - in fact PT here would be easier to come by if he's as good as some make him out to be.

Mullen has probably dropped an insance # of F-bombs these past few weeks. I just have a hard time believing that a lot of this is his fault although I'd like to know if him promising Wells he'd get a shot at RB played any part in this whatsoever.

ETA: wonder if TN signs another RB - most SEC schools sign more than one a year. I'm sure they told him "you're our guy" and I think that appealed to him. Be interesting to read his commit story when it goes up.

At this point I'm just ready to get Feb. over with and start worrying about next year's team. The only positive is that RB isn't a need position, but I thought this guy was the best of the bunch so it still stings.

The Rocky Top experience along with new head coach Derek Dooley was enough to sway Georgia running back Rajion Neal to be a Volunteer.</p>

“I had a great time during the visit too,” Neal told Scout.com “The campus was real nice, the coaches were nice, I liked the facilities, and I just got to know about everything up there. We felt each other out, I learned as much as I could, and we decided that Tennessee was best for me.”</p>

Telling new Mississippi State Coach Dan Mullen about his decision wasn’t easy for Neal.</p>

“It was tough to tell Mississippi State no because I have been through the recruiting process with them for about a year now,” Neal said. “I spent a lot of time there, I knew the coaches there well, and it was a hard thing to do.”</p>

Dooly and Tennessee offensive coordinator Jim Chaney apparently made a good impression on Neal.</p>

“Coach Chaney and Coach Dooley were the coaches I spent most of my time with during my visit and we got along great,” Neal said. “Coach Dooley knows what he is talking about, he knows what he is doing there, and I like him a lot. He has been through it and I like what he is getting ready to do at Tennessee.”</p>

“As a person, he is honest, up front about everything, and I liked that about him. We talked a lot up there and me and my family like him a lot.”</p>

first thing that comes to mind:have you been to Neyland Stadium in the past few years? DW doesn't even sniff Neyland.

Plus, it's Knoxville .. it's UT, they have a national presence. We do not.

over there in Georgia. Cecil probably told the family that if Neal played RB at MSU he would just be a rented mule. Really sucks that we've now had 2 highly rated players from Georgia this year that apparently wanted to play for us but finally gave in to family pressure to go elsewhere. In fact, my understanding was that Neal only made the visit to UT because his family was pressuring him to do so.

Neither State nor Ole Miss was interested early on, and he committed to Texas Tech. I'm not sure if the new coaching staff at Tech cooled on him or he simply wants to stay closer to home, but apparently there's mutual interest between him and State. He's not a world beater, and I think he's probably a backup plan, but he has good size and plays a position of need. I wish our coaching staff had given him more of a look especially with Coleman looking increasingly unlikely to sign with us.

Though the tailback situation at Mississippi State gave Neal some cause for concern, the Tennessee tailback position gives him cause for optimism. A back like Bryce Brown already in place at Tennessee gets Neal excited for his opportunities.

"I wouldn't mind playing with a kid that was the number one tailback when he came out," he said. "I wouldn't mind having that experience of having someone show me the ropes and bring me along like Hardesty did with him last year."




Yeah, I'd love to sit the bench behind the number one RB and play for Louisiana Tech's sub .500 coach.

Running back Rajion Neal of Tyrone, Ga., had been committed to Mississippi State since August.

But after visiting Tennessee last weekend, Neal has changed his commitment to the Vols. He's the lone running back commitment in this class for Tennessee.

The 5-foot-11, 199-pound Neal is rated by ESPN's Scouts Inc. as the No. 20 running back prospect nationally. He rushed for 1,812 yards and 33 touchdowns last season.

There should be some pretty good competition next season in the Vols' backfield. Bryce Brown, Tauren Poole and David Oku all return, while Toney Williams will also be back after suffering a knee injury last year. Poole may be the one to watch. He was underutilized by the last staff.

Some of the players on Tennessee's team thought he was at least as good as Brown and possibly even better.



Whereas MSU is returning 4 or 5 OL and UT is losing 4 of 5 OL.....and MSU's RB position is wide open.
