A ton....close to Pickens? What kind of neighborhood are we looking at.....anyone know?

I have heard 85 to 200 million, I would bet it fell somewhere in between. I have talked to people who say that it was enough to now make us a major player in the SEC athletics.

We can buy trash cans for the junction, and buy out Tommy West before we hire him

60 mil from what I am told. This comes from someone overhearing it inside the Bryan Building.

I believe the number floating around on the coast is 100 million over 10 years. Plenty of money to hire a first rate coach and improve are facilities and budget tremedously.

I have a very reliable friend/family member/source who told me this on saturday and then echoed the same thing to me yesterday....

He was not positive about the amount however, but did say that he had heard that Leo Seal left $250 Million to the university total... of which $70 million is to be allocated to Athletics.

I am positive about the donation. I think the amount is under question but what i have posted is prolly a pretty accurate number.

Is this why we really canned Croom then? We got all of this money and Byrne said "Let's start over and build like Texas Tech!" It just seems like the donation may have been a huge motivator to start over and build a program. Thoughts?

I'd love to see MSU have an endowment fund for all athletic scholarships and a fund for buying out coaches, when necessary.

How big of an endowment fund would it take to cover all of the athletic scholarships (at today's prices and interest rates) for the big 3 sports ?

We've got a couple of Woodward and Bernsteins on the pack...

Honest question: if we have that kind of money, why don't we just buy Nutt out?

1: We dont want Nutt
2: The money will prolly be given over some time..
3: Hopefully not, but they could be stocks...
4: Dont worry.... give it time... Byrne will start slinging cash i think

There would be about 6 SEC coaches I would buy out before him. Richt, Urban, Spurrier, Saban, Bobby Johnson for what he's done at Vandy, and Tubbs and he's free. I don't want Les or Petrino, haven't seen anything yet from Kiffen, and I'm not sure about Rich Brooks. One day I think he's a damn good coach and then the next his team folds.
There are also at least 5 non-SEC coaches that we could legitamately get that I would pick before Nutt.

Leo had several million shares of Hancock bank stock not including other family members and not including what he had dumped. And not including other investments.Stock value varies from +$65 to $35. Use average of $42.00 and he had a ton of money.
Edit-As of 8/4/08 Leo had 3.88 million shares of Hancock Bank.

Pickens gift to Okie State was about $165 million in shares in his investment company. Their value has shrunk to $6-8 million, and Okie State is backing and filling because they can't meet obligations in the AD without additional income. Now if this gift is in stocks, etc., it will wind up being worth more, because the market will recover. It had better, cuz I'm gonna make a killing!!

If your suggesting $25 mil for athletics and $25 mil for the school then your wrong. I know for a fact that a certain college within the University was going for the amount your suggesting he left for the school last year, for naming rights to the college while he was still alive. Id venture to say that if they (read the Foundation) felt confident he could do that while he was alive for one college alone, then he would leave considerably more than that in his will. I think the most likely scenario is about $100 mil split evenly between university and athletics.

well i would assume the actual amount might stay confidential due to the fact that our AD will not be able to raise a dime if we all know that they just got 100 mil....
