We are now the only school left in the conference without a national title in any sport, specifically the big 3 (except track). Hopefully Cohen can get it done... baseball is the only legitimate shot we have to win one. We blew our chance last year...

You do realize that Ole Miss's football NC's are not nationally recognized, don't you?

If we had a finish like they did in '62, you'd be pretty damn pissed if we

didn't claim the title, no? Because I know I would be. And for the record, no school's title pre-BCS is nationally recognized.

I know they went 10-0-1 in '60 and 10-0 in '62, but I don't think they ever held the outright AP #1 either of those years. Both years, I believe they can deservedly claim a title, though... because if we had finished that good, I'd be pissed if we didn't at least claim something.

'41 was our best year and we lost to someone OOC.... Bama claims the title because of some poll where they were claimed the outright #1 (even though they lost to us).

I should have used AP or ok..BCS..instead of nationally recognized. Them and Minnesota (the 1960 AP champ) are listed on NCAA site as NC's for 1960. That's it. http://www.ncaa.com/history/football/fbs
http://deadspin.com/5975168/the-def...l-national-champions-or-why-alabama-is-a-liar

1960: Ole Miss. Minnesota counts its scrubby 8-2 squad as national champions in part because, again, the AP used to take its final count before the bowl games. The full-page description of the 1960 Golden Gophers in the Minnesota media guide mentions their first-ever trip to the Rose Bowl but elides the fact that Washington clocked them 17-7. Ole Miss finished 10-0-1, tying LSU midseason. Dear Minnesota: Stop claiming this as a national championship.

we are unworthy bitches scared to commit. our fate is sealed. but guess what, we have 9 cws appearances, so lets get fat and satisfied.

its 17ing disgusting an academic school just beat us out. we should all hang our heads in shame, slap our selves in the face, take a cold shower to carve a 17ing toughness groove in our collective brain. * (some of you got that reference)

we are eternally soft and willing to accept mediocrity.

maybe we should build a winning womens bowling championship team....after all, some of our best/nationally renowned mens teams aren worhty of investing in....5-7 years down the road my ***. what a 17ing disgrace of a timeline. no wonder we are in the predicament we are in.

I can tell you for a fact that no one in our baseball program is satisfied. It took Corbin twelve years to finally win one. Cohen had us in the championship series in year 17ing five. You think he isn't committed to winning? He's taken this program out of the cellar and built it back up. It takes time, especially after how bad things were when Cohen got here. To say that our program isn't committed to winning...holy 17 man, relax.

this man. geez shamoan step away from the ledge.

Tim Corbin's time at vandy to get him to this point

2003 - 27-28(14-16) no postseason
2004 - 45-19 (16-14) Super Regional
2005 - 34-21 (13-17) no postseason
2006 - 38-27 (16-14) Regional
2007 - 54-13 (22-8) Regional
2008 - 41-22 (15-14) Regional
2009 - 37-27 (12-17) Regional
2010 – 46-20 (16-12) Super Regional
2011 – 54-12 (22-8) CWS
2012 – 35-28 (16-14) Regional
2013 – 54-12 (26-3) Super Regional
2014 – 51-21 (17-13) CWS Champions

For Comparison, here is Cohen’s time.
2009 – 25-29 (9-20) no postseason
2010 – 23-33 (6-14) no postseason
2011 – 38-25 (14-16) Super Regional
2012 – 40-24 (16-14) Regional
2013 – 51-20 (16-14) CWS Final
2014 – 39-24 (18-12) Regional

First thing to say is that both teams were pretty poor before their respective coaches took over. I do think MSU was in a slightly worse position but that is a hard argument to make so there is no point in dwelling on it.

The biggest thing I notice in both teams’ trends is that the year immediately following initial success was a tough one for both teams. The year after Vandy first made it to the Super Regionals, they missed the postseason. The year after they first made the CWS, they went 35-28 and got put out in a regional. The year after we made it to the Supers, we actually did better in the regular season but exited in the regionals. This year, after we were in the final, we went 39-24 and exited in a regional.
Look familiar?

Anyone not seeing what Cohen has done is choosing to be blind.

What

exactly makes you think we are currently scared to commit? What a surprise, that I completely disagree with you.

If you want to say we have titles in 1940 and 1941 and they have one in '62, that's fine. But it's meaningless to claim Ole Miss has a national title and we don't. If having a national title just means you have a good argument that you were the best team that year, we have two and they probably have two. But there are either two teams in the SEC without a NC in a major sport or no teams in the SEC without a NC in a major sport. Can't be consistent and claim there is one.

stricklin says our timeline for a dnf renovation/rebuild is 5 to 7 years away. we are slipping further from the front of the sec every year we wait and we need something to stop the bleeding, give us a jolt in the arm, and lift in recruiting.

That's not what he said.

We'll be playing in a new DNF in less than 5 years.

Gene asked him a yes/no question about completion of the stadium "in 5-7 years"... basically a terribly worded question in which Strick basically just agreed with him. The correct way would have been to ask for a timeline, which I still don't think Strick would have given, but coming from all directions behind the scenes, the current goal is a 2017 or 2018 completion...

A good argument is not a 16th place finish (1941); however, finishing 10-0-1 would be if 3 teams ahead of you had not finished undefeated (Minnesota, Stanford, Boston College).

But a "title" awarded based on statistics years after the fact is a good argument?

The reality is neither State nor Ole Miss have a national championship in a major sport. We can both make semi-ridiculous claims for a couple, just like Alabama claims every championship that the Tuscaloosa Gazette gives them. But if we want a real national championship, it looks like we're going to have win one in baseball.
