Gloucester informed us yesterday that they will decline to play us on Friday. Absolutely no legit reasons given. This is the 3rd team that has canceled and only Heritage had a legit reason. I know Maury in Norfolk and Oscar Smith are dealing with this too. Maury is only about to play their 5th game in week 9. Unfair to the kids and it’s always the bottom dweller schools canceling like they haven’t been getting whooped on for years prior.

Is this a state wide issue? It’s crazy

People used to always blame Covid or used that as the reason for not playing (sometimes legit, sometimes it seemed quite sketchy...).

Well, now they don't even bother to use Covid as the reason. Some know they will lose so they just forfeit. I am not sure if this is a movement in the proper direction...

Now programs earn respect just for showing up to play...

Strange times.

In my opinion the next time realignment comes around none of the schools should be able to play up or down. I know that this discussion has been brought up before but it needs to be done.

My question would be who's making the decision, if it is not truly "Covid" related, the head coach or an athletic director? If a HC is deciding not to play thinking they have already lost, should he be a HC? What kind of example are you setting for your players. Its ok to "not" do something, if you think you can't? AD's make the schedule, you already know who your good programs are year in and out, someone will be a surprise every year, but you still know the dominate programs. Although there has been some decent match ups this year with programs searching for games. It would be hard to do that on a weekly basis with travel expenses but at least teams have stepped up and decided to play someone they would not typically see.

Definitely happening at the 1A level. Most are legit. Some are questionable.

Too much leeway being given for schools to just cancel games without any blowback. I find it odd that certain schools will cancel games due to "low numbers" but then be up ready to go the very next week... only to then miss the game after that to "low numbers". One certain school has been doing this going back to last spring depending on who the opponent is. I'm sure the kids in that program do not appreciate it.

I don't think anyone is allowed to do it right now. It was my belief that they were playing where they were classified based on enrollment.

I know in the Seminole there are teams that are Group 3 & 4 in the same district. Unreal how much the Group 3 schools get beat up on and really don't stand a chance Rustburg playing E.C.Glass is a perfect example.
