I'm glad that Alfano has seemingly turned things around for himself at Lackawanna. That noted, posters on this board have been clamoring for him to be here since 2019 and he has yet to play an actual game down of FBS football (and I think 2024 is his last chance at the FBS level).

This is the kind of kid that we just don't want here. Sorry, not sure his talent can compensate for his behavior anyway.

And where has he shown that "talent" on the field in the last, what 4 years, on the field? Reminds me of the DT, forget his name, that came to Rutgers after screwing up his eligibility at Miami, left RU after a year or 2, ended up at Akron. Signed with the Giants as a UDFA and Coughlin cut his *** after 2 days? 2 Days ?????

We need players. The DL was terribile in the Maryland game and most of the season couldn’t generate a pass rush without bringing extra guys.
He’s not coming here anyway , but if we want to be a good program we need better players

If he had any issues at the junior college it would have been made public because in this age nothing is kept under wraps. He is good enough for LSU but not for Rutgers. We are a team with not enough talent across the board and def not enough depth. This is the kid you take a chance with and assign staff to watch him and his teammates to guide him have weekly talks blah blah blah. This kid with no baggage gets big NIL money we could have gotten him here for free. It’s almost as bad as spending hours a day here posting and this team being a big part of your life but you can’t donate to help the team get players. That kid should be here would be the best DLINEMEN on team the moment he steps on campus.

Yep. There are many reasons why we have stunk for so long . We need better players

He was worth a flyer . This is professional football . Cut his *** if he acts up

It is very difficult to just cut a kid in college. Yes, if he does something criminal or against NCAAF rules- sure. But if he is jus an ******* and disruptive in the locker room...doesnt quite work that way.
A place like LSU is much more a factory than it is a school known to try to do the right thing. Sure, it may be more of a semipro league now but Rutgers just doesn't want to go there and I hope we never do.

All we should care about is Rutgers winning . If you think alfano can help us win, he should be here . If you think alfano can’t help us win, he shouldn’t be here. It semipro football and pretty simple

Well- no, all we should care about is not just winning. We all want to win but the "at any cost" is BS in all level of life, including sports.

I’d take a competitive program that rarely gets over the top over what some of these elite schools are doing.

Did you watch the Manziel documentary?

I am with @yesrutgers01 on this one. We cannot take anyone who we know there is a high likelihood they will be disruptive to the lockerroom and the underlying philosophy of Rutgers football. We need shared values.. a shared mindset. Our parts must come together to be something greater when together.. other places.. like LSU.. they can rely on lining up better athletes everywhere..

..there.. the parts ARE the whole.. here, the whole must be greater than the parts..

Manziel was really good at a&m! Imagine if Gavin was that good here ! How great would that be for the program and school

These SEC schools are by far the worse. I mean- we get worked up over trying to get an extra credit assignment, hiding a couple of "pot" tests, paintball, credit cards.
Meanwhile- you have kids at schools like Florida under suspicion of a murder amongst other things, another who pulls out an AK47 and starts shooting, etc.
Others who just get away with anything.
I had a coach tell me not to worry about our son if he came down there because the team had such close connections with the police that they could make sure our son would never get arrested and would be playing every saturday.

If that is OK for your School- go become a fan for someone else.

I mean that is better than what happened to carroo here . Our star receiver has his senior season ruined by a bogus arrest !! That was absolutely pathetic .

Agree- and also another reason Rutgers just can't go there.
Even if we wanted to, NJ would shut us down. So- we have to play by the hand we are delt.

Think about it- how many fans still say how embarrassed they were by Flood wanting extra credit for a player and that he broke the rules by contacting the professor directly(he never asked her to just change the grade). OMG- he didnt turn in a couple of failed pot tests. - meanwhile- NC was penalized less and their fanbase and media turned a blind eye to the entire sports programs at NC cheating the entire academic world.

So- if I even said- let's go longest yard and bring in every ******* kid just to win- our sports program wouldn't make it more than a year or two.

If we went the other way and do the "Prime" way- again- our sports program would be shut down.

And 90% of us- are glad we are not doing it either way.

Even if he was deemed acceptable by Rutgers Who’s to say that Alfano isn’t getting a nice unmatchable NIL deal as well from LSU or at least promised one if he’s a good boy on “probation”.

It’s very apparent that Rutgers simply cannot compete with or match the offerings of the deep pocketed boosters of these other alumni or major sponsor supported programs . Therefore, we aren’t even under consideration for many if not most top ranked prospects. The $$$ simply isn’t there.

I am an issue by issue kind of guy. I have something in common with everyone because I am all over the map on politics and on supporting or evaluating our team, coaches and players. Ya gotta be honest with yourself and everyone else. Only way to be.

Thats a defeatist attitude . If that’s how we feel, we don’t belong in the semipro league

I don’t know how this kid is eligible. His 5 year clock started Jan 2019. He would need to have 4 years of college credit under his belt to be eligible to play. I doubt he left Alabama and Colorado with many credits. He then went onto 2 Jucos that don’t have the best academic reputation.

Not worth the risk of ruining your locker room chemistry. This kid has always been bad news.

LSU can take the risk because they are on a different level.
Yep …and we can celebrate whenever we claw our way into bowls like the pinstink and don’t finish last

Plum, like you say. It’s just the facts and one reason why our head coach states that we are a developmental program.

If you can tell us where Rutgers will get the millions of NIL $$$ needed to recruit these players I’m all ears.

I don’t have that answer . My point would be, if we are admitting we can’t compete then why bother? Go play in a league that’s not semipro and doesn’t have kids like alfano

I went to Rutgers twice so I have no choice. Picking Rutgers over South Florida was a no brainer. Please do not act like if the kid had offers from LSU or Bama he would have come here.

You missed the point. It was worth the watch. It’s a pretty damning indictment of some college programs - and the NCAA more broadly. It was apparent the kid had significant drug and alcohol problems - but no one cared as long as he showed up on Saturday. As long as his play made the school and others tons of money.

Like yes, I’m not a fan of win at all costs. If doing things the right way means we’re a competitive, perennial bowl team that doesn’t win a natty, I’m fine with that.

It apparent that we can’t continuously compete for some of these top rated players if NIL $$ is an overriding factor in their decision making process. That’s a given.

However it does not mean that we can’t compete on an individual game basis with all the other non-blue blood teams that are in a similar situation as Rutgers with the hope of RU occasionally upsetting a traditional power.

Again, not defeatist just the facts as to our lot in NIL life right now.

I think our lot in life is comparable to most schools outside of the perennial top 10.

GS is first and foremost into "cultural fit", Alfano screams no way, plus how do you evaluate, he's never play a down of FBS football, Rutgers is still not easy to transfer into in terms of accepting credits from lesser institutions, so you have that issue as well. Prediction: Greg pulls a hamstring leaving a meeting with Alfano and his advisors.

People change from 17 to 22. There are plenty of people who were ******** at 17 that grow up.

Has anyone else been to a high school reunion?
