Any ideas on how to fix my cowbell?

The ringer flew off on Saturday night and luckily no one was hit.

I had that happen and decided to MacGyver it up

using a clothes hanger and a padlock. Now it's heavy and sounds weird, but I'm strangely proud.

I've done something similar except I used a large washer the first time (lost it) and then a ratchet bit the next (lost it too).
I finally just bought a new one.
