Great football game and will always remember being there. Hope those of you who have been making fun of the game have a great time watching powerhouses Fresno State and Wyoming in Lincoln next fall.

If I had gone to the game I would have bought a t-shirt.

5-7 teams do not deserve to play in bowl games, but I'm glad they made an exception for us this year and I am glad TA got a chance to rinse that Iowa taste out of his mouth.

6-7 is nothing to be bragging about if you're a school like Nebraska.

I am glad you enjoyed yourself.

Beating down UCLA on national tv is always a positive thing for any program.

Out of curiosity, do you think a 6-6 or 7-6 team deserves to go to a bowl game? Not that long ago even those teams didn't go bowling.

I would never buy a bowl tee shirt with or without a FF chicken logo but if they had been selling thermal outerwear with a FF chicken logo, I would now be the proud owner of one. It was Lincoln-cold. I'm still a little puzzled why folks here made fun of the game and yet will be excited about the Red and White "game." Football season is way too short as it is without wanting it to end in November Hopefully on 20-20 hindsight we can all agree that it was a good thing we played the game.

As for the who deserves to be in a bowl game debate, I would say there are probably no more than 30 teams that deserve a bowl game based on a reward for excellence. But bowl season is now mostly just programming for ESPN and the FF game was better than 95% of their other mindless programming.

Have bowl games ever been about who is most "deserving"? Bowl games were created as exhibitions in order to generate tourism for the host cities and revenue for the sponsors. Their organizers wisely decided to stage football games between recognizable college football teams as the main event.

Over time, more and more cities/sponsors saw the obvious revenue potential and staged their own games. The football programs that were the most successful became the most recognizable and hence, the most marketable. Teams that had better seasons were routinely passed over for bowl games. The Fiesta Bowl was specifically created to give Arizona State a game to play in because they kept getting passed over by bowl games despite having great seasons. Eventually, we morphed into a system that had a pecking order, of sorts, that placed teams with better seasons into bowl games that were perceived to be more prestigious. But in the end, bowl games are entertainment exhibitions designed to make money. Hopefully Foster Farms and the city of Santa Clara felt their effort and investment were worthwhile.

Anyway - it's not like Nebraska was taking a spot away from a more "deserving" team. The rules were pretty clear on who was eligible for these 38 exhibition games.

Its no doubt all about TV revenue and tourism promotion and it turned out to be a GREAT deal for NU. It would have been not so great had we lost.

I enjoy purchasing one every year, but when you finish with a losing season regardless of winning the bowl game or not I'd rather spend my money on a year that is more deserving.

I don't know about getting a t-shirt. But, if I see another singing chicken commercial I'm gonna pull my hair out.

I find the entire discussion about whether a 5-7 team deserves a bowl game to be one of the most ridiculous discussions ever. It really is simple. There ARE 40 bowl games this year. They NEED 80 teams in order to play those games. Those games WILL be played. If there are not 80 teams with six wins, what else do you expect to be done.....cancel some bowl games? When 80 teams are needed for the bowl season, 80 teams "deserve" to be there. I am not hammering you per se, rather the entire discussion, which is absurd.

It pissed me off they had to bend the rules so that Nebraska, freaking Nebraska, could even play in a bowl game this year.

I also find the amount of bowl games absurd, but if their going to have them then of course I get the fact they need teams to play in them.

Agree with you - my point was that a 7-5 team is probably no more deserving of a bowl than a 5-7 team in may cases based on who they played. People hanging their hat on a winning record seems arbitrary when it comes to bowl games these days.

Bingo. Like I said weeks ago, what do people expect? Does the NCAA tell cities sorry, you dont get to host a bowl?

Three 5-7 teams got to go bowling. If they couldnt, then two bowl games don't get played, and one deserving team gets left out because there are not enough 'deserving' teams.

This has been hashed and rehashed for weeks. According to the rules we were deserving, we went, we won. Can some of you just be happy about that?
