Once, they put out the word that Othella Herrington would be visiting Dudy Noble during a baseball game. Not rumor (not much internet back then, BTW). I mean they REALLY put out the word. Then the moment he walks in, they make some kind of generic announcement that MSU welcomes its visitors today.

So everybody looks around and there are some MSU people escorting this enormous black guy. Everybody knew who it was and the whole place applauded and cheered.
