I love the NBA because it is one of the most exciting sports to watch from an athleticism standpoint. The NBA playoffs are as much fun as any post season sporting event out there. With that said fantasy basketball sucks unless you are willing to devote a lot of time to it. You can easily miss a full week without noticing it. The winner of the league is typically the guy who works the hardest.

I like the daily roster changes. That's what makes a lot of baseball leagues great. What I hate about fantasy basketball is the number of categories for each player (8) as opposed to baseball (typically 4 or 5). It makes it really difficult to rate players.

But if you are playing with a bunch of casual fans, you can destroy them if you know a little about who in the league can play.

Go with the glaringly obvious in the first round. Durant, Rose, Paul, Lebron, Dirk, Wade, Stoudamire etc. But guys to possibly steal early, and maybe even later if you're playing with people who are going to jump all over only people they hear about all the time are:

Love
Aldridge
Curry
Ellis
Jefferson
Horford
G. Wallace
Granger
Eric Gordon
David Lee
Tyreke Evans

Don't be enamored with guys that have one skill set, like points. Free throw percentage counts as a category as much as points. I love big guys and will go heavy on quality centers, power forwards. They won't dominate points category but they will typically be good for rebounds,FG %, blocks.

Seshomoru has a pretty good draft strategy. Look at PER to get an idea of a players productivity across the board. Initial draft doesn't honestly matter much after the stars are gone, just change your lineup daily and don't be afraid to drop players if their hurt(unless they r a top 30 player). If you play the max number of players every week it won't matter who you have playing you will do well. Most people that play won't change players daily like you need to and so trumaroon is right that the hardest worker usually wins.

-Draft a SF or big first.

-Make sure you understand the scoring system for your league. A lot of leagues don't do FG/FT percentage. That is a big deal.

-Don't get enamored with stats like blocks, steals, and threes. They are great, yes....but not consistent. Don't base entirely on points and rebounds but always remember that those are the most consistent stats. So, for example, if I am looking at two guys with similar fantasy point expectations, I take the guy that gets more points and boards.

-Speaking of projections, don't rely on them too much. Look at 2010-11 stats too. I consider those to be more important than 2011 projections. When you do that, though, remember to change back from the 2010-11 stats to projections....or else you'll end up making mistakes like DJ Augustin (Bangs head against wall)
