I can say folks around DeKalb say Momma Pollard and her son told Ray it was to late for them to get to know enough to be considered. As for as the email, it was nothing positive about Ray, only negative about what he isn't doing.

He has added 4 players on top of 3 already signed bringing the total to 7 signed and 12 on the team. I'd say he's done a pretty damn good for two months on the job. He also already has a player committed for next year.

Stans didn't have a choice. He just went along after careful consideration. He needed his retirement--PERS.He was pretty shook up over the RETIREMENT****

he was given a couple of options and he could have returned but he also was told if he retired he had his full salary and benefits. It was a no-brainer. I am more concerned about the replacement because he doesn't appear to have recruiting down yet. I am willing to give him a chance and unlike your disturbed *** hope he succeeds. The proof will be in the pudding but I am sure he will get a free ride from you for four years and that is more than you ever gave Stans. Rick Ray will now reap the rewards of a successful coach who raised the funds to build a great practice facility. Now let's see if he can compete in the league you say is so piss poor. Coach34 said:

Is "meeting with" the new "partied with?" I guess the board is maturing.

It's not like there were a lot of 4* & 5* prospects out there for him to sign. I think he did the best he could have possibly been expected to do with the absolute train wreck Stans left him with. I like Stans and he did a lot of good things for us, but he left our basketball program in shambles. And you're just proving my point that some of Stans's diehard supporters are trying to undermine him before he even has a chance. God knows you never ran out of excuses for any screwups that Stans was responsible for. How about you giving Rick Ray even 1/10 of that benefit of the doubt.

I will state there weretwo 4 and 5 star prospects out there and one was Hood and the other was Pollard. Based on the information I have heard and you saw it too said:

I'm not sure if it was in a Marcello report, but I'm sure I saw a video interview with Coach Ray where he stated that he had reached out to Stans, but hadn't received a call back.

Dawgbreeze, I am glad to hear you say that (or see you write that). I wasn't writing about you when I talked about Stans supporters not supporting Ray, I was more talking in general about some fans that are that way. Your post just got me thinking about it. No reason a fan can't be both a Stansbury supporter and Rick Ray supporter. I personally supported Stans up until just before the very end, and even then I was never anti-Stans--I just thought after the season ended thatit was time for a change.

What the anti group are complaining about is he didn't talk to Pollard which Ray was told he had no chance. Ray had more work ahead so he he went out and signed what you said. Not this crap about not talking to Hood's mother, what a bunch of false rumors. I don't understand true Msu fans who put crap that out, they have no clue what Ray is about!
My deal is let's wait and see and give him a chance instead of spreading rumors from second hand folks.

Furthermore, since when does somebody not keep trying to talk one on one with a 4 or 5 star prospect just because someone told them something. Kirby heard he had no chance either but he is still recruiting him. That my friend is what recruiting is all about .

Rick could not have come back and if by not having recruiting "down" you mean we're not buying players, then you would be correct.

Stans was arrogant to a fault...he really thought he could run that program any way he wanted with little to no accountability.

I know plenty of shallow, uneducated, simple minded people like yourself. In fact, one sat right in front of me at that game many years ago in T-town. We won... we talked ****..... he turned around and bragged about their top 5 football recruiting class.

As a shallow, uneducated, simpleton, I clearly am in over my head here. I cede the board to the sophisticate sporting the "Super Favre" avatar.

there is this pathetic group of Stans followers that were so obsessed, that felt as though nobody in the world could do what the all-knowing braintrust could do at State, that they are now so bitter that they want to see Ray fail just to say "told you so." They spent 10 years with Stans sack hanging off their chin, doing all they could to get closer to him and serve his every need in order to have access to the program. I had one of themsit and try to convince me of how great a coach Stans was and that how nobody in our fanbase understood a thing aboug the game of basketball. Stans may have been a lot of things...some positive attributes, but being brilliant, either in general or in terms of knowing the game of basketball inside and out, was not one of them. In the next sentence the guy couldn't wait to brag on the recruiting role he played and how he was in the know with Stans. It's almost like being involved gave him some validation of being important in life. Kinda sad. That said, I had nothing against Stans personally...nice guy. I just didn't want him as my basketball coach anymore. Pretty simple.

Anyway, my point is that it'salmost nothing personal against Rick Ray. We could have hired a combination of John Wooden, Bob Knight and Coach K all rolled into one, and this small group would claim he wasn't doing his job right and was doomed to fail. Let me go ahead and warn you, no matter what Ray does in terms of X's and O's next year on the court, they will find a way to claim he's no Stans on the bench. I'm just praying he's not. But to claim he hasn't been recruiting, when both Hood and Devonta were for the most part lost causes, and the guy goes out and salvages enough in the late period to basically field a team next year, is just ******** and venom being spewed by the bitter nut-lickers.

I hope Dawgbreeze enjoyed the meeting tonight with Coach Ray and the Coast Dawgs as much as I did. I feel pretty good about the state of our team going forward after hearing him talk tonight. And Coach Shaeffer was pretty excited about hanging up a Nat. Champ. banner in the Hump in the near future.

Coach Mullen talked about winning championships and how everyone is working hard (and as always, football is a game of inches - inches kept us from an 8-4season last year, and the other side is inches kept us from 6-6 year two years ago). Stricklin drew a huge applause when he said that Mullen keeps handing it to our friends from that other school up North (sorry, Lars...Ole Miss sucks).

I wish somebody had told Coach Ray to tuck in his shirt though...it's the Coast and we're more laid back and everything - but tuck that shirt in.

Saw some great renderings of the stadium expansion tonight as well. I hadn't seen them yet.

Only Coach Mullen took questions, so maybe Dawgbreeze cornered Coach Ray after the program andtalked to himabout Rodney and Mom'n'em.

Editted to raise a toast to my 69th post. SIXTY NINE, WOOHOO!

I agree about the function and it was good to see the excitement. Coach Ray is a nice guy but he also has lots to learn about recruiting in this state. He avoided the question about never talking to Devonta saying " I didn't think we had a shot". I asked him how does he know that unless he asked the kid face to face? He looked a little flustered when I asked him that so I let it go. I think he knows he has 3 or 4 years so maybe he is not as concerned as some of us but I will support him and told him so but he knows there were folks who put their money, heart, and soul, into the program and it will take time to get all of them back. It certainly didn't hurt that he is making the rounds My biggest fear is he will give up to easily on some kids ala the kid at New Albany and Booker at Moss Point. We shall see.

These people should back the program until he proves that what he is doing isn't working. What a ridiculous mentality

Anybody with a competitive bone in their body would never say "I didn't think we had a shot". If he truly said that (and meant it), then he is not the guy for the job and if the AD heard that he would not be around after tonight.

If my boss asked me about a particular sell I lost, and I said "I didn't think I had a shot"....I would not have a job the next day.....and I make nowhere in the same universe what Rick Ray makes. If he said that, I would want his *** gone tonight. But maybe that's just me.

would people be so loyal to the man that quit on them? Why are the Stansbury supporters so upset and needing to be won back if he did indeed "retire"?

The setting was an alumni event where Ray had just given his speech and was gladhanding all the fans afterwards and some random guy walks up and asks why he didn't call Pollard and he just says, "I didn't think we had a shot?" There's no way any coach in this country would have handled that situation and question that way. I'm sure Ray walked away thinking, "Who in the hell is that strange guy?"

I run a team that does customer management, new customer sales, current customer growth, and other daily sales. Basically, its a lot of daily brokering.
And one of my responsibilities is to look at the big picture and assess where time needs to be spent that day/week/month, as well as what efforts could be worthwhile or a waste.
There is a finite amount of time for us each day and we need to maximize our odds of success. Hell yes I base dozens of decisions eachweek on if I think I/we have a shot or not.

I find it hilariously inefficient to go after every single possible lead just because you dont know if it could pay off. There is a time and place for that sort of work mentality and approach, but it really isntfor a highly competitive business where time is a concern.
And recruiting at a major college is a highly competitive business with a finite amount of time that can be dedicated to the issue.

You didn't talk to Coach Ray like that...
Give it up, your boy is now our "old coach", you have no more inside information or access to our program than anyone else..
It must suck for your old ***..
Nice try though...

has nothing to do with inside information but we all know how accurate some of you clowns have been on inside information so I will take that with a grain of salt. I doubt there will be any inside information in the future. I will still say no matter how busy someone is, they should make a kid tell them no and not someone else. Sorry that bothers some of you but it is fact. Coach Ray has NOT spoken to Devonta Pollard. Now, make your own judgement on that but I don't thinkI am alone in finding that unbelievable. Now, fish, you, patdog, coach34, and a few others get those ticket orders in early.

Why would Ray think we had no chance with Pollard? Who would have told him that? And who would have told him that- that he trusted them enough to believe what they were saying?

Just like your BS that he didnt speak to Mrs Hood- when we have a quote in the newspaper saying he met with Hood and his family?

The preseason schedule is going to be a bunch of patsies and I am afraid with the void in talent we will get clocked plenty in the league. I can't see true Freshman performing until they get some experience and the thought of Wendell Lewis being a scoring threat is scary. Instead of jumping on me, these folks better buy those tickets because lots of folks may not simply because they know we won't be very good and has nothing to do with Rick Ray. The SEC tv contract is a double edged sword, we will make money from the league on it but folks aren't going to travel to see a team that is undermanned and inexperienced. That is why I am encouraging Coach34, patdog, fish, Thick, and a few more to pony up and buy tickets now, they got the change they wanted, so now support it.
