Any word on what recruits were at the game last night?

I would be really interested to see just what some of these big time defensive guys like Evans, Ward, and the Brownsthought after a game like that. If I saw the way our DL and LB'splayed I would have come away pretty impressed.

which I thought was strange. Richie Brown, Nick James, and the usual suspects were there. I will say that it is good to see the commits that we have being so consistent in getting to campus for games.

Quay Evans sat in the North End Zone. He was a little late getting to the game so he had trouble finding a spot... luckily some students moved over for him and his friends.

Side note.... went and got nachos at halftime. No fight broke out.

The key thing here is that neither Ward or Evans have commit-able offers from Bama. Quay is behind Eddie Goldman on their list and they will get Jordan Jenkins pretty soon which will fill the DE position.

You really think Quay Evans and Channing Ward don't have offers from Alabama? You're out of your +@!*#!+ mind, pal. I know it's hard for some of you to believe, but not every football player out there wants to play at Alabama.

Evans and Ward could both commit to Alabama right now if they wanted, and Saban would be damn happy he got them. I don't give a **** what Steve Robertson says. They are 2 of the top defensive linemen in the country.

But I don't know the difference between a commitable and non-commitable offer either.

I do not subscribe to Scout and my sources are coming directly from Bama fans who are in the know on the recruiting front. Saban chooses who he wants out of elite talent so it is not farfetched to believe Ward and Evans are behind other guys that he wants. He can only take a few D-lineman and D-Ends with so many other positions to fill. I don't believe Alabama can get whoever they want from us but Evans and Ward have appeared to lean that way. Bama really wanted Fletcher Cox and weren't able to sway him but in this situation it would be great for us if Bama backed off the recruitment of these 2 guys.

should potentially help us keep some of these guys in state. Just shows the talent differential when you talk about Bama and LSU when guys like Evans and Ward are marginal to even get an offer from them. Will also be interesting to see if Richie Brown gets an LSU offer.

relative to a Bama offer but I do know that Bama already has 20 commits so there aren't a lot of spots still available for them to offer.

All of my Bama buddies were swearing up and down they were going to take him from us when Croom left, and even after we replaced him with Dan, they still thought they were getting him. Apparently Saban was really high on him, and after what he's done for us, it's pretty obvious why.

Bama right nowhas 20 commits. They have 3 DT's signed, and they have a DE signed. That leaves 5 spots left, and they have some big time names still on their board. Kwon Alexander is one they are pushing for really hard, along with 5 other 5 star OL. They are going to get at least one of those because they always do, and their current OL commits are very underwhelming for a typical Bama class. I don't think we will know much about Evans and Ward until closer to signing day and we find out exactly who Bama is going to get.

As an aside, Bama has 17 5 stars left on their board that they have offered that are still uncommitted.

Is it possible Ward and Evans don't have committable offers from Bama? Sure. But what exactly is Bama looking for, and who does Saban really want is what we don't know. For a 3-4 defense, maybe a kid that's currently 305 like Evans doesn't have the body they want. Maybe that's why they have a kid that's already 328 pounds that runs a 4.9 already commited from York, AL, which is very close to Tuscaloosa. Possible character issues? Maybe. We just don't know.

Sometimes when schools have the luxury, like Bama, to have a shot at a ton of the highest ranked players in the country, they can afford to be a bit more particular with their recruiting process. They don't just get the number 1 guy at the position because he is the number one guy. Maybe he is 20 pounds too heavy for the need they have to fill. But the guy ranked 3rd and 4th at that position might be the right size to fittheir scheme better, and there still really isn't a talent dropoff.

Saban isn't an idiot. Just because he might not want Evans doesn't mean he's stupid for not taking him because he is ranked number 1 at his position. He might not fit plans as well as other recruits. If Saban sucked at recruiting, I doubt he would have won multiple national titles. Those on here that keep saying that because Evans is the number 1 recruit at DT he most definitely has a committable offer from Bama need to shut the hell up. You don't know. Good coaches don't just get top talent, they get talent that fits schemes and needs.

I am sure Saban and all other coaches have their own rankings. Who do you think is better suited to rate the players, the Swan or Saban and Mullen? Who do you trust to make these evaluations, an actual SEC college coach or some douche from rivals or scout?

Rivals has him at #15, so obviously he is talented. But obviously like you said and I said earlier, coaches are way better talent evaluators than scouts that work for websites and have paid subscribers. I just don't trust them to make 100% accurate evaluations. That's why I only blame Mullen only for not bringing in JUCO's to fill holes, and not for the low rated classes we've had. Look at some of the guys we have that we think are going to be solid contributors or already are:

Nick Griffin- offers from Stanford, Vandy, Arkansas St, us, and USM. # 85 RB. He seems like he could be a great SEC RB once he's 100%.
Malcolm Johnson- #169 WR zero other D1 offers, but many on here think he's the best TE on the team. I agree.
Jameon Lewis- # 161 CB zero D1 offers, but the kid can fly and he seems like he is going to be a solid slot guy in the future
LaDarius Perkins- # 77 RB offers from Auburn, us, ULM, USM, BYU, La Tech, Arkansas St. Has made some big plays for us, and will be a solid contributor his final two years on campus
Cam Lawrence- #84 Safetyoffers fromus, Ok St, USM, Duke, ULM Now is the leading tackler on our team.
Johnthan Banks- #69 Safety no other D1 offers. Leads team in interceptions, and is considered one of the best CB's in the SEC.

These are just a few of the guys we have that have been overlooked by other teams but are solid contributors for us. Recruiting sites can't take into account how well someone will fit into a system or how a teams workout program will change a kid.
