Anybody feel like this "SEC sucks" talk is getting overblown?

I mean the SEC is not as tough as usual but does anyone really think that no SEC team is among the top 25 in America? Beyond us getting crapped on, Florida and LSU deserve a bit more respect than what they have been getting.

I'm with you. I think it's the in thing right now. Sure, Kentucky and Florida are down, but LSU could easily be in the top 25 right now. People forget that Arkansas just beat Texas and Oklahoma, yet they are like 2-6 in the SEC. Our conference hasn't set the world on fire... but I still believe that we could be deserving of 4-6 teams in the dance

The problem is that a conference gets judged on how it preforms during the OOC schedule (which is played at the beginning of the season), and the SEC preformed pretty badly. However, the talking heads seem to ignore the fact that as a conference the SEC is very young and/or inexperienced, and thus it is only logical that teams would struggle at the beginning of the season (which is when you play your OOC). Also, there is no marquee team, and that hurts the perception of the conference. I think the quality of the teams in the SEC has improved as the season has progressed (State now is definitely better than the team that lost to Charlotte and USD), and I personally believe that the SEC teams that do get into the tournament will upset some teams.

However, the SEC is down this year and cannot compare the the ACC and Big East.

In the end I hope we can get 6.

Right now it should be Florida, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee

State and Kentucky will hopefully join this group if the remainder of the season goes as planned.

There are some quality players/teams. I mean, the only team to beat the no. 2 team in the nation is 1-7 in the SEC. And Tennessee just barely got beat by Memphis. The same team that went to Spokane and pounded the **** outta Gonzaga.
The SEC doesn't compare to the ACC or the Big East this year, but a lot of the teams are young and talented. The WWL just likes to go way overboard on most topics, and unfortunately, one of their favorite topics this year is taking a **** on the SEC.

Which, ironically, is the same team that beat Tennessee - twice.

...however, it is not down as far as many media types portray it to be. I think the Big East and ACC are the two beasts this year. The Pac 10 and Big 12 are neck and neck for 3 and 4, and the SEC and Big 10 are about even. We simply don't have the bruising big men inside. We have Pat Patterson, Jarvis Varnado, Chris Johnson, Michael Washington...and the big Aussie for Vandy. Some of the Big East teams have 2-3 on each team.

I am mostly referring to the fact that even the top teams in the SEC are not in the voter's top 25. I refuse to believe that the SEC champ is not worthy of being in the top 25. It is almost like if it gets repeated enough that it becomes fact. I think waaaaay too much is being made of the RPI ratings.

We are 6-2 in the SEC and fighting to win the west. So you could argue we're one of the top 4 or 5 teams in the SEC. And we have losses to Texas Tech, San Diego, Wash. St., Charlotte and a near loss to St. Bonaventure.....

Last I checked, none of those teams will be in the tournament. So yeah, I'd say the SEC is down. I would hope we've improved enough to win those games if we replayed them today, but that's not how college basketball works.

is because of how we do in football. I think the media in certain parts of the country don't like it that the dominant college conference in the country is in the South. We aren't as good in basketball as we are in football, so it's easy to **** on basketball.

The SEC is young this year. Naturally alot of teams started slow while the young players were developing. Alot of the SEC teams have steadily gotten better as the season has progressed. I agree that the SEC is not that great. All I am saying is that there is no freaking way that the top two teams in the SEC should be unranked. It almost seems like the SEC is being intentionally slighted. I mean does anyone believe that Davidson would even be at .500 in the SEC?

Have you heard what they say about the SEC during bowl season? Stuff like Ohio State has enough speed to compete with LSU?

It's hard to **** on the SEC when we go 8-1 during Bowl season and wins NC's practically every year.

Then you have a conference like the Big 10 getting fellated every year for no good reason.

The major media markets in this country are not located in the South. There is definately some bias.
