Looks like we have a shot at getting him. He just named a new Top 6 and we are in it, and it looks like he may schedule us for a visit. Just wondered if anybody knew anything about the guy.

if a strange name pops up on the radar at the end of the 'crootin year, it means you are missing on your targets. So obviously this guy is a backup plan. Obviously.

Or it obviously means that the recruitniks and joe blow fans don't know **** about what the coaches are doing in recrootin'.

I would actually agree with RebelBruiser. I think that's why Ty Washington has been added to our list at WR because we missed out on Tobias, and probably why that CB Bobby McCain is taking a visit to us, because we missed on Brassell, who I think would have played CB for us. McReynolds is a 4 star, and since we haven't had a 4 star DT on the list, I don't think we missed on anyone.

I think Chris Wilson may have come into play here. Being at Oklahoma, I'm guessing he has made some pipelines across the nation. And now that he's the DC as a line coach, a few things may have come together for McReynolds to want to take a visit to us. Maybe we can get him. Would be a good find.

Top defensive tackle Kevin McReynolds (Washington, D.C./Saint John's College) has received a scholarship offer from Ohio State, ESPN's JC Shurburtt reports.

The Buckeyes join the USC Trojans, who also recently offered.

Kansas State, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, New Mexico and UTEP among others have also extended scholarship offers.

The ESPNU 150 Watch List talent was one of the standouts at January's national Under Armour Combine.

...lets call a spade a spade, usc offered this kid and they only have 15... he is legit!

If you miss on some guys your staff is clearly focused on, and then new names start popping up at that position, you're taking a back up plan.

I don't know what you've been doing at DT or if you've missed anyone, but if you haven't really missed on anyone, than it's possible that whoever this guy is (haven't even looked at the profile) was on the radar all along and just recently decided to take a closer look at MSU for whatever reason.

Sometimes it's clear that you're taking a back up plan, and if you're having a ton of new names pop up late after certain players you were after committed elsewhere, then recruiting isn't going well. Like I said last year when we signed that Cedric Smith kid, it was clear he was a back up after we missed out on Dequan Menzie who committed to Bama. He popped up on the radar right after we missed Menzie.

Goat is right that we don't know everything the staffs are doing, but you can get a pretty good feel for it if you keep up, and you can get a pretty good idea if a guy you're signing is a back up plan or not.

ETA: If the guy has a lot of other legit options that are pursuing him, then it's more likely that he just recently showed interest in your program than it is that you just recently showed interest in him due to missing out on others.

it looks like based on a post from BDJ that McReynolds is considering a visit this weekend. Thats a start. But I agree, I hope this is not an "instead of PJ" move and is more a "best available" move.

Let me also say, I hate we missed on Singleton and Brassell, but if we are going to fill in the rest of this class with "best availables", lets bring in as many OL and DL as we can. That is where games are won and lost.

Good recruiters don't just replace a WR with another WR most times. They replace a player with the next best player, where that player is the next best football player on the board. You can talk immediate needs with JUCOs, but that's it.

Second, the crap Yancy and Steve and others feed the masses is absolute garbage. It's all about them selling subscriptions. Us arguing about them is laughable to them. Yeah, they may have their own little pissing contests but it means nothing. We CANNOT know who, what and where the coaches are recruiting. You may can get a good idea, sure. I don't think the good coaches recruit space fillers. If they don't know who they are getting, they don't just offer schollies to make up a class - they'd rather have open invites to walk on before doing that. Note: I said the GOOD coaches.

And again, it's NOT about need, no matter what Drebin and the other apologists say. They've obviously never been around football or talked to anyone with experience in it.

I think there is one thing I like that I'm seeing at this point about recruiting. We have a ton of 3 stars left on the board. I knowalot aren't going to consider us,andI know stars can be an overrated thing to look at, but if you will remember this time 2 years ago, our backup plans were a bunch of 2 stars with bad D1 offers, or no D1 offers at all.

This is where we will be able to compete with the rest of the SEC. If we upgrade the quality of our depth, we will be able to move our way up the pecking order in the SEC.There are always good 2 stars out there like guys like Banks and Broomfield, butconsistently getting3 stars instead of 2 stars will help us in the long run.

why not try to fill it with the best possible regardless of position. And if a good player shows interest you move on it regardless of how late in the game it is.

Look at who Mullen landed late in the process that sort of popped up out of nowhere:

2010
Archie Muniz - 2 star on Scout and was committed to Utah - should be in the OL rotation next year
Jeff Howie - 3 star JUCO - contributed in the DL rotation this year
Dillon Day - 2 star - should also be in the interior OL rotation next year

2009
Brandon Heavens - 3 star WR
Ricco Sanders - 3 star WR
LaDarius Perkins - 3 star RB
Maurice Langston - 4 star CB
Sean Brauchle - 3 star K
Leon Berry - 3 star WR

Granted, Day was not highly sought after, but just about all of these kids had other BCS options.

This aint Croom missing on some targets and moving onto the nextavailable for a particular positionand signing some kid that barely cut the mustard in high school.

I am sure I am leaving some out, but I think you understand what I am saying.

That's what I like to see from guys like that. Can they come in and make an impact in 2 to 3 years, and all of them did.

I'm not as sold on the 2010 class of late signees because most of them are lineman or didn't qualify, and we have a good line already. But don't forget Chris Hughes, who did some stuff on special teams this year and will also factor into the LB rotation. Wepulled him late, and he should factor in at OLB next year. </p>

It will be interesting to see how Robinson, Lawson, Day and Muniz progress. I have heard/read verypositive things about all of them. I will also say this, Sherrod was probablyas highly recruited/regarded as Robinson coming out of high school. Can you imagine if we had redshirted Sherrod? Redshirting OL...who would have thought you could do such?
