Article titled "Mullens play balancing act" or something like that. Not Mullen's, but Mullens. Almost like a black bear wrote that.

The article was talking about their family in plural. I took it the same way that you did when I first read it, but then I realized that the Clarion Ledger isn't out to get us 100% of the time and actually read the article.

The headline was grammatically correct.

If your goal is to find a "journalist" who doesn't understand correct grammar, please read Oxford Godfrey's work (or better yet, Jeremiah Short).

Also in the CL Mrs Freeze seemed a little pessimistic that her children will finish school in Oxford.

Some guy named Eric English from Vicksburg tweeted Marcello about his "error". Evidently Eric English needs an English class. Embarrassing.

Hijacking a bit, but at least it concerns grammar ...

There's a sign when one exits the Murphy gas station at the Madison (AL) Wal Mart on Madison Boulevard that reads something to the effect "NO DELIVERY'S ALLOWED". This is a professionally printed sign, not some hand-lettered thing.

I'm not sure how the trend of forming plurals by use of an apostrophe ever started, but it seems about half the people do it nowadays. It's one of those things that's very irritating, like squeaky chalk on a blackboard.

Several years ago, and it may still be there, there was a sign at this body shop place in Noxapater advertising itself as "Noxapter Body Shop".

Those weren't the exact words. If they were I could see your point. I'll have to check the wording next time I'm there, but a plural was clearly intended.

I point this out every time we go to Philly...

Several years ago, and it may still be there, there was a sign at this body shop place in Noxapater advertising itself as "Noxapter Body Shop".

It's been there for years. You'd think it would've been corrected by now.

There's an HVAC van that I see fairly often ...

from "Artic" Heating & Cooling. I doubt the guy even knows it's wrong.

I've noticed that most SixPackers have a much better ...

command of the English language than posters on Gene's Page and most other forums that I've read. Non-PC folks must be smarter than others ....
