Looks like a fair chance I might be moving there.

Pluses, minuses? Cool tidbits?

I would need to live on the West/NW side, folks at work said generally around Sea World is fine?

I lived in SA for a year and loved it. I lived in the Pearl Brewery area just north of downtown. La Cantera is a fun spot with plenty of restaurants about 15-20 minutes from Sea World.

I go to a lot of conventions there. The downtown area seems to be going downhill and could use some revitalization, but overall I've always thought it was an interesting city. Some people I work with live there and like it a lot. Austin being a fairly short drive away is also a plus - lots to do there.

I thought it was alright. The Alamo was smaller than I envisioned. The Riverwalk was pretty amazing for touristy stuff and restaurants/bars.

River Walk has a good Steak restaurant every 50 feet(Slight Exaggeration). It is like nothing I have ever seen anywhere else.

Went there for work for about 10 days, and didn't get to experience much of the night life.

If you like beer Flying Saucer is an amazing place!

San Antonio is like a small big town or big small town. Not a lot to do in the outer parts. By that I mean it's just like everywhere else with lots of chain stores. You go into older parts of the city and you'll find more mom & pop stores. I like San Antonio. Not sure if I want to live there, but it's nice to visit. If moving there then yes, the N/NW side of town is the more affluent areas.

I've lived in SA pretty much my whole adult life since coming here for college. Lord that was 1976.

There are some nice subdivisions around Sea World. The area further west, Alamo Ranch is booming and I doubt the roads are keeping up with the traffic. Local restauranteurs have begun to open places close to the La Cantera area that was mentioned, otherwise, lots of chains in the area as was mentioned.

Biggest tip: the first time you have to bring breakfast tacos to work, skip Taco Cabana and go to a mom & pop.

Thanks for the tips. In my case, breakfast tacos may be more like "middle of the night" tacos.

Did you go to UTSA? I'm interested in their MS of Computer Science if I do end up down there.

I agree with jeans, it's Texas you will love it. Moved to Tx 31 yrs ago, still from Neb when asked though, but freaking love Texas. Had chances to move to So Cal, Denver, etc no chance.

Pretty much all 3 of these. Mrs Sparky & I were at the River Walk for almost a week a few years ago.. Had a very good time.

I lived in SA for two years and we recently moved to the DFW area. My family and I really disliked SA.

If you are looking for good areas to live: outside 1604, north of 151 and west of 281 or just slightly east of 281. Hollywood Park is an amazing little city, huge lots, but some outdated homes and pricey. You can try living in Boerne which a great little town. It's close and just off I-10.

Other neighborhoods:
- Stillwater Ranch $250k+
- Alamo Ranch $250k+
- Several areas in Stone Oak $300k+
- Cibilo Canyons $350k+

The HEB in Stone Oak has a great restaurant inside it with live music. Check that place out early and often.

STW 911 is a fantastic gym with a high military/gov presence in its membership.

Live close to where you work cause the city infrastructure is terrible.
